Scavenging

Oh, dirty Danish sofa, how you taunt me.

This sofa is totally worth $25, right? Even though the leather has a tear in it and the wood probably needs to be stripped and refinished? And I don’t actually need another sofa?

But I should probably still buy it, because it has potential. White leather! $25!

Sigh. This is how people wind up with basements full of furniture (and houses full of stray cats), isn’t it?

Anna that’s amazing, can’t even call it a bargain !
am shocked… Are you going to cover it with fabric ?
I think with your good eye for bargain mixed with renovating skills your basement could easily transform itself into a great ” Vintage shop ” ?

I haven’t bought it yet, but I am seriously considering it. I think I would do some sort of leather or vinyl applique over the tear, because if this is in fact leather (the seller says it is, but I haven’t seen it in person and it may very well be vinyl) I don’t want to cover it completely.

He also has an unmatched set of Danish chairs that he’s selling for $10. (Yes, for both.) Tempting, but I feel like I should be at least a little selective.

Bargain of the (mid) century! And a well-placed blanket would conceal the repair, although as the leather/vinyl appears to be in panels, you could just get the offending panel replaced. Er, do you have room for it?!

That is a great deal! You can fix it up no problem. I like your idea of using a leather or vinyl applique, especially since the tear looks very centered from the picture!

    (but it’s SUCH a deal…)

    hee!

Surely you could find a spot for this couch. $25??? That’s easily blown on a stack of magazines!

It’s fantastic!!! Man, I think I need to move where you live!

have you seen that stuff on teevee that supposedly “seals” rips in leather? like late night insomnia, pre-tivo commercial zapping teevee? anyways, my mum used it and it worked pretty well. not perfect like on teevee (shocking, I know!) but pretty well, and for $25 it is OK. maybe you just always encourage guests to sit in the middle! 🙂

I’d def. squeeze two sofas in my living room if I found a steal like that!
I say go for it…& if it doesn’t end up working you can always re-sell &
probably for a nice little profit 🙂

I’m anxious to see what you do with this piece (I’m assuming you are going to buy it. It would be silly not to.) I’ve got a similar sofa with a few rips and tears that I just can’t bear to get rid of, but I can’t afford a great re-upholstery job right now. I’m sure you’ll do something fabulous.
