But anti-tiled countertop people say that they are 1) harder to clean (than a smooth surface) 2) trap nasty things like e-coli (etc) in the grout. I would assume that if you took care of the countertops (cleaning them well and sealing the grout/tile habitually) that they would be fine. I’ve always liked tiled countertops too. Aesthetically speaking it was quite charming (small hexagonal white tiles) but I do have to say that it never really felt all that CLEAN. I scrub the grout in our tiled shower once a week and I don't fancy doing it even more often in a kitchen, where a clean countertop is much more of a hygiene issue. My two cents! Maybe with the new silicon grouts that are available that is no longer much of an issue, I had my tiled entryway done with a silicon grout and it is holding up amazingly! I just registered at hgtv.ca/castingcall to try and get them over to my place as theyre looking for places to fix up right now. And even beter, they are now living in Toronto I hear!
