Vanity + Wearables

Five hours until haircut time!

Many thanks to all who replied to this post from me few weeks ago with great suggestions for hairdressers in NYC. After much mulling, I finally decided to make an appointment for 6:00 PM today with Pattie at Soon Beauty Lab. Five hours to go!

I’m bringing along a montage of photos of Sara Quin from Tegan and Sara. I’ve never even listened to them (actually I’m listening to something right now online, and…well, I think my appreciation begins and ends with the haircut, oh well), but I saw this haircut while searching for photos of blunt bangs, and WOW! It’s a great cut. I always feel kind of goofy bringing along photos to the hairdresser, but surely that’s the easiest way to communicate what I want, right?

I’m also going to have a discussion with her regarding hair color, and what can be done about mine. I’ve been dying my hair for 19 years (!)—black for about 15 of them—and I’m sort of curious about how I might look with a totally different color. Say, pastel blonde. Who knows? If I do it and I hate it, I can always make it black again.

I’m nervous! I always get this way before a haircut. Tick, tock…

what a great haircut, you’d suit it for sure. I wish I had straight hair so I can play around with it too 🙁
can’t wait to see the result!

Fun! I just got my hair cut… short with bangs, it’s so fun!

Sigh, if only I could wear bangs–my hair is wavy/curly with weird cowlicks at both temples. Bangs would be a nightmare but I love them so much!

I think that cut in blonde would look great on you 🙂
A word of warning – I used to be platinum blonde and the first time it was bleached was about a month after I had died it black. Be careful – it’s hard to get black hair dye stripped all of the way and your hair could become brittle. Then again this was at least 10 years ago – so there have probably been some advances since then!
Good luck and don’t worry about the cut!

okay, this will come across as borderline stalker, but hey, that’s what having a blog is all about, right? believe me, i know! anyway…

so i am in your same position, but totally opposite. i’ve been a blondie all my life– i’ve been getting highlights since i was like 10. but i’ve recently been toying with the idea of going really super dark, and…well, i actually have a photo of you saved as one of my “this is the color i want” photos! we have similar coloring so i thought it might be helpful to my stylist…

anyway, i haven’t been brave enough to go dark yet, but goo luck to you going blond!

i wish i could pull off that cut…totally cool. funny i was just walking by soon on my way home tonight…did you go east or west? i want to get some funky color (last time i did it myself and manic panic-ed my bathtub and body hot pink-oops) but its hard to find someone good. looking forward to hearing how you like it.

Tegan and Sara have always such cool haircuts! I’m a big fan of their music as well as their haircuts but I guess it’s not for everyone 🙂

I think you look great. Very Jane Fonda in Klute.

my little apartment: If you want your hair color to be like mine, don’t waste your money having it done professionally! My hair is BLACK, as dark as it gets, no highlights, no variation in tones, just single-process, flat color. I use L’Oreal Preference, and it costs about $10. The most important thing is to use a black dye with neutral undertones (sometimes called “natural black”). Blue-blacks look AWFUL on me, and red-blacks fade to dark brown really quickly. I touch up every 6 weeks or so.

Tara: I went to Soon West.

priscilla: Jane Fonda’s hair in Klute is very inspirational for me! I don’t think I can pull off a look quite that shaggy, but it looked great on her.

hey, now. i brought that photo of you-know-who to MY recent hair appointment. you can imagine my shame. but it ended up resulting in a great cut. and my stylist actually asked to keep the photo for her reference files!

i love that cut shown in the images. it would suit you well.

    Hi,

    I love your blog.

I love Tegan and Sara. They totally rock. They are one of my top bands and probably my favorite Canadian band (I am Canadian). My Favorite band in the world is the Cure. I just thought it was funny that we both love the Cure but you don’t like T&S. You should give them another try. Their most recent album, “The Con”, is great but the best album is “So Jealous”.
