Hi Anna & Evan- I really appreciate your site - and that you put up pictures of a few of our neighborhood houses for sale (my listings as well -thanks). I also wanted to let you know that both of the houses you have pictures of have been sold & now have new owners - and we have new neighbors!

Any update on the Henry St house? I've asked the realtor for interior photos, but haven't gotten a reply yet. Did you get a chance to view it?

Scheesh! That would cost *well* over a million dollars where I come from... And with interest rates around 9.7% that's just never going to happen. Good luck to whoever scores this one!

Other Anna: Newburgh is WAY cheaper than Staten Island in terms of what you get for the money architecturally!

Hello! A native Newburgher here, now a Brooklynite. I love the house (and what you have done with your home). Which realtor is the house listed with?

Gosh, that price. It's just so unheard of here, one of the few places where the housing market isn't hurting. Sigh.

Mimi, I'm not trying to keep Newburgh a secret! I'm all for people moving here and buying houses, provided they are up for renovating and restoring them, and that they want to be active and supportive members of the community.

This is a city with a lot of derelict and abandoned properties, as well as very serious economic and societal problems. It's also incredibly beautiful, filled with historic properties, and has the potential to return to the thriving, safe Hudson River city it once was.

I make posts like this in good part to increase positive awareness about Newburgh. So much of the rhetoric that's available online is hugely negative, and I think has, in part, become a self-fulfilling prophecy. I want to encourage people to come here and help save this city, not drive them away and keep it for myself.

As for Graze's comment (I'm not sure what you mean by "soon to be seen on white whine"), I can certainly relate to his/her sentiment -- I moved here from Brooklyn, where the type of house I live in would have cost well over a million dollars. I know what it's like for the cost of housing to simply be too high, and that's a good part of why I moved here.

after reading some of the comments above (the one from "graze" soon to be seen on white whine), i bet you're wishing you kept Newburgh to yourself. To think, you could soon have someone like that living across the street from you...sheesh.

there goes the neighborhood.

I live over in Warwick and recently drove through Newburgh - I'm interested to know, Anna, what sort of amenities does it offer? Is there an artist community there? Is there shopping in that neighborhood? The views of the Hudson are amazing, but I was a little shocked by the "feel" of the town. We just moved here from Brooklyn and Newburgh reminded me of where I lived on 4th Avenue in 1998. Are there any signs of urban renewal (besides the one city plan for condos on the river and stuff)? If what happened with Savannah, GA could happen with Newburgh, wow...but Savannah has the SCAD to help out with that.
Even though we just moved to Warwick, we're seriously thinking of our next move, and Newburgh looks appealing for some things.

p.s. We did look at a larger house that WAS a total wreck inside recently, and it was listed at $80,000. I think they will get half of that price ultimately.

Wow, what a beauty. And the price! You can't even buy a burnt out closet for that much. Is it a total mess inside or is that a normal price for something renovated?
