Just discovered your blog and love it.
We live in VT but the job situation here is very tricky...my husband is a cinematographer. Might have to move closer to the city and Newburgh looks like a very interesting location. Thanks for sharing!

If you have to have such a long commute, at least you have something really beautiful to look at! My 20 mile commute is all buildings, billboards, and construction.

Beautiful! This is holiday territory! My 'commute' isn't so picturesque...the only saving grace is that I can get home in 7mins flat!

OH- and I had actually wanted to drop this link by you. Im reading your site on my Blackberry so I cant find an email address!

This is from the comments on that beautiful house for sale near you. Staten Island *used* to be more expensive for the size, but is now right on par with that nice Victorian you showed. Unfortunately for all of us who put hard earned cash into these beauties, the market is making it less of an investment. :(

I take a ferry on my commute as well. I do like it in the summer- but I also hate the crowding that those months bring.

I think I've ridden your ferry before! My in-laws live in Rockland and I've taken the Metro North to a boat many times.

I have a similar NY commute - I take a ferry too. It's the only part of my day that I don't have to rush. You can't jump off the boat and try to catch a faster one. I have to agree it's a nice way to start and end the work day - and you can't beat the views!

Ha ha! And I complain about living 20 blocks away from my college. Ok, I don't actually complain, it's pretty sweet, but I could never live that far away from my job (or school)!

Love seeing where you start and end the day! It looks wonderful. I find water very soothing first and last thing, too. Really restores me, and my perspective. Here's where I start and end (just behind the trees at bottom left):

That's it, I'm moving. Driving over a bridge trying to peer through cars at the river has nothing on a ferry ride every morning!!
