Inspiring Interiors

Amazing Chinatown loft.

I don’t normally post home tours, but these photos by Anastassios Mentis of a loft in Chinatown are so beautiful I have to keep a record of them. You can see the full set of photos at Apartment Therapy.

Look at the whites, the neutrals, the use of small, restrained (restraint is the key here) amounts of color! Perfection. I love that it’s not a super-fancy-expensive-looking space, either—lots of IKEA mixed with a few high-end pieces. Totally inspirational!

Dead, gone to heaven.

How great are those rugs?! And that IKEA bookshelf looks a billion times nicer when some of the sections are left empty.

Even a spool of twine can be beautiful! I love this photo. Love! The light is like a dream.

Tiny, perfect bedroom. Another amazing rug.

RED! GO! YES! I hope that little scarf is always poking out of the drawer, because it really makes the photo, yeah?

Those are beautiful! Thank you for posting them. I’ve been really re-thinking my wall colors lately, and I am thinking of going with more white and very light subtle colors, like you mentioned in the dining room (using a very light blue and white). These pictures strengthen my resolve even more!

This was one of the best house tours they’ve had in a while.
It has definitely added to the mounting evidence that white with wood and some color is the only way to go!

I absolutely 100% agree! The simplicity and beauty of this space leaves me speechless!

Dead!! I have died and joined you in heaven. This loft is exactly how I would want my home.

Gorgeous! And speaking of, I just saw your apartment on Flickr and it’s pretty darn fabulous, too…

I am so coveting white walls right now but if I ask my hubby to help me repaint the living room one more time, I’m pretty sure he’ll divorce me.

You are right, everything look so pure, and calm…of course they cleaned everything before to take pictures but it is nice to think that maybe somewhere, the life could be perfect. So,thanks to share this pictures!
By the way, your flat looks more “real”, and I like it, but I told you that before 🙂

I like it, and they did a great job, but the bones of that space are hard to mess up if you have some sense of design. I have to say that I don’t think a space looks good painted white unless it gets a LOT of light (and having high ceilings doesn’t hurt). Otherwise, it just tends to look unfinished.

Perfect. I’m obsessed with those dhurrie rugs at the moment also.

Oohhh everything is so crisp! Love love love those red drawers against the pale blue.

Also love your blog and have been reading back through the archives to catch up on your home projects. I have great visions for that bathroom! 🙂

Can I just move in there? That’s so exactly perfect, every single tiny thing in that house.

I REALLY love that it’s not super expensive, too, being a poor college student. This is so inspirational – I love the pictures on the wall.

Wow, thanks for sharing! It’s a great marriage of affordable pieces & collected things that gives the “blank slate” personality.

Man, oh, man. You’re so right about the restraint…

WOW… what else can I say?!

  • Reply Katja August 7, 2008 at 8:59 am

Gorgeous! Love the colors. I always admire people who decorate with such restraint because I couldn’t do it, but it looks so beautiful that I wish I could.

oh! those floating shelves in pic #1 are so much sexier than the ikea ones i just bought… just a bit longer and narrower. I love them so much more

To anyone considering paint colors: most of my house is painted the same color gray as your last photo and I LOVE it. It is so perfect and light and crisp.

    Thanks for the great post
