Four Legs + HOUSE: Newburgh

Oh, we need a weekend.

All four of us need a weekend. Right now. Not to relax, but to catch up. So that some day, years from now, we can relax. The plumber is coming tomorrow to fix a leaky spot, and then we’ll be able to finish up the kitchen pantry. I’ve been living without adequate kitchen storage for the better part of a year, and I’m getting desperate to have those precious 9 square feet back.

Other weekend plans include preparing the garden (Remember the garden? Yeah, me neither) for some sort of patio-type thing, finishing repair work to the windows in the scary, unused back room (yes, it still looks like that, minus the tub and sink), repairing a chew-hole in the sofa (I do NOT want to talk about it), and maybe a trip to IKEA to start picking up some of what we’re going to need for the downstairs bathroom (and possibly taking a peek at what’s hiding under the 27 layers of tile we have to pull up).

If there’s time left over (!), it would be nice to go out for breakfast.

Have been observing from afar for some time now, and really enjoy your musings and of course all the visuals.

Sounds like you have busy weekend prepared! I desperately need to do some gardening, too, but it’s still too dang hot here…

    Stupid Texas.

I SO know what you are talking about! I’m about ready to throw in the towel, close my bedroom door and not open it until spring. As it is I will spending the weekend skim coating the bedroom walls and praying it won’t take as long as I know it will. I haven’t felt this down or frustrated since I don’t know when. Sorry for using your blog to vent. I don’t know when everything spun out of control, but I hope it spins back soon. I can’t wait to see what you do with the downstairs bathroom! Your plans for it look amazing!

I, for one, think you should make the breakfast a priority.

Oh, so sorry for your sofa, I know the feeling, my cats kind of ruined the side cuschions (leather) of our Bruno Mathsson Pernilla chair. My husband ususally whines about all the damage the cats do to our sofa and his loudspoeakers, but this one we don’t even mention. It is too much. We just pretend it didn’t happen. So we can go on loving our cats.

    Hi Anna,

I only discovered your blog fairly recently and have been reading back through the archives. Let me say that when you read it all at once it feels as though you have achieved everything super quickly! Having said that, because you are feeling so stressed at the moment, you should take a minute to look back at what you have achieved since you guys moved in and pat yourself on the back – because it truly is amazing.

I was wondering how you were getting on with your lovely little garden. Have you managed to keep everything you planted alive? (I ask because as hard as I try, I seem to have a bit of a brown thumb….). I am in Australia and we are in the midst of a terrible drought with tough water restrictions – so planning a garden (like I am for our home) takes on a whole new dimension. I know you already have a plan for your garden, but below is a link to a site that provides tremendous inspiration for me. Brendoar Moar has a show here on the Lifestyle Channel and I am in love with his work, particularly the interesting things he comes up with in terms of hardscaping. Have a look at some of the ‘after’ shots (in all your spare time!).

Anyhow, just wanted to say I love your blog (we have a very similar aesthetic), and also to enjoy your weekend and give yourself a least a little break.

Go out to breakfast first, then it’s nicer to do everything else! 🙂

Oh don’t work too hard! Though on the other hand: imagine how satisfied you’ll be when your house is really really ready some day… Isn’t that a destressing thought? 😉

I just discovered your blog tonight via decor8 and I am loving your tales and photos about renovating your house. It looks as though it is coming along beautifully – even if it is a lot of work.
    Thanks for sharing!

What kind of dog is Bruno?

Your garden is awesome… We just installed a new Cedar fence after a rough storm and I finally started sealing/staining it today. Your home and dogs are lovely and keep me inspired to add to my husband and I’s first little house (bought in March).
