Confession: There’s an unused bedroom at the back of my house. It currently looks only slightly better than it did a year ago, when it was housing the tub and sink during our endless bathroom renovation. I’ve been slowly doing things like repairing the windows and scraping peeling paint from the moldings, but it’s all very half-hearted. Eventually we’d like to move our bedroom back there, away from the street completely and into the only bedroom in the house with a single door.
I don’t know what my problem is. I suppose I could blame my slacking on the rest of the house… but… well, I don’t know. The ultimate plan is to paint the unfinished plank floor white (it was unearthed under two layers of glued-down carpeting, and it in pretty rough shape), which should reflect a lot of daylight. The rear of the house faces North, so it does tend to get a little dim back there.
I’m going to just hang out and look at these photos for a while and try to get myself moving. Sigh…

I’m actually a little bit glad to hear there is a not-quite-beautiful-yet room in your house! Sorta makes me feel better about my unfinished projects. Plus, we get to journey through it’s transformation with you!
I really like the headboard in the second photo. Neutral colors, yet vibrant pattern. Would be nice to wake up in the morning and see butterflies above you — positive way to start the day. =)
I love the bottom photo. I love the throw, and the colour of the cushion. I was thinking of getting a very simple bedstead like this one – and this proves to me that it can work.
i do love the white floors, soooo pretty.
Thank god for your blog, you know. I am learning so much about home restoration from you, especially how to stick to it, AND, how to do it little by little so you don’t overwhelm yourself. I was once a girl who thought you had to pay half a million for a perfectly put together home, and then I realized that’s not the case at all. I can’t *wait* to get a house!!
eegads, I’ve been suffering from a bit of the same “gotta get moving” feeling! Thanks for being the perfect break from my procrastination.
I love the white with the teak pieces. I’m such a sucker for stack white with beautiful wood…
hi – discovered your blog while researching our eames rocker ‘project,’ and have been a bit obsessed with it ever since 🙂 wonderful stuff! have a question about an older post (sorry for asking it here) – you mentioned sending out one of your upholstered shells to RetroRedo – have you had anything redone there before? how’s the quality/price? thanks!
I really hear you on this. My office project turned out great but wow, it was exhausting. I think that is what is keeping me from launching into another so soon.
An aside: my mother drives me nuts in that she can’t stop making improvments on her own house. As soon as she finishes one project she’s starting another. This weekend, while writing a long list of all the projects I want to do in my house, I had that inevitable revelation: I. Am. My. Mother.
I’m sure you need a break after the umpteen other projects you’ve completed, AND the ones you’re still juggling (how’s the bathroom going?!).
I like the bottom photo. Some texture and warmth would look fabulous in your bright, white room.
I love the inspiration photos and I can’t wait to see the white floors but…
you’ll be exhausted if you don’t stick to one project at a time! 😉
I am loving the headboard in the second photo. It’s such a statement but at the same time not overwhelming at all. Maybe if you find a bunch of inspiration pictures and take a break to absorb them they will motivate you. 🙂
Take you time! Take a break! It justifies the rest of us.
I love what you’re doing and the pace seems just right – any faster and I might get discouraged 🙂
I too love the white floors and the crochet throw and the last pillow color and and.
Thank you for sharing D16

I cut my own bangs this weekend after a couple glasses of friendly red wine – yea me!
I would use the photos from the previous post – Adam’s room – as inspiration. I can totally see this room in blue and white to keep it cool and counteract the dimness.
Anne, Adam used the same paint colors for the walls & trim in his bedroom that I’ve used throughout my house (BM Moonlight White and Simply white, respectively), and that scheme will continue into the bedroom. I won’t be using any blue, though, as it’s not a color I can live with on a daily basis. Good for others, but not for me!
I completely know what you mean. I have avoided doing anything in the rest of the house while construction is going on (at a snail’s pace I might add). I can’t seem to think about where stuff will go and hang and be stored while so much clutter from the kitchen covers the rest of the house.
pretty sure you’ll fix it. There is Adam’s room as a great inspiration to you as well, isn’t it?
But on the other hand I know how you feel. There has got to be more then inspiration only…
Great images, especially the last one, really beautiful.
