HOUSE: Newburgh

Pocket doors.

The pups and I were shut in the living room all day while the plumbers finished the rough-in (they’re done, hooray!), and as I was walking back from the kitchen, I was reminded of how beautiful the pocket doors between the dining room and living room are. We very rarely close them unless we need to contain the dogs for some reason, but they really are great. They’re in better condition than any other doors in the house, probably because they’ve spent much their lives inside of the walls, protected from shoes and fingernails and chairs and dogs.

Ok, you have really done it now. I have lurked away for too long, and this is the post to break my silence.
I cannot tell you how much I love these doors. I’m talking will copy you down to the hardware and claim the idea all to myself. Well done! I love your style.

I’m hyperventilating! Those doors are won-der-fulll! I love how tall the top cut-outs are in proportion to the bottom. Oh, and the black! You are so good at details!

Those doors are beautiful and go so charmly with your style. I’m jealous… 🙂

So beautiful! Are they top hung or on rollers? Did you have to repair the hardware at all?

Those doors are absolutely lovely! Just beautiful.

Very nice! Looks absolutely gorgeous! =)
And curiously, did you organize the books on the shelves by color? =P

I lived with pocket doors once…magical. Old douglas fir, stained to look mahogany. If I had my way swinging doors would be obliterated and pocket doors would rule forever!

    I dream of pocket doors.

Those are really lovely. Lucky you! I am really liking the black/white/gray theme throughout your house.

I’m slightly obsessed with pocket doors, and these are gorgeous.

Were these painted the same BM Toucan color as the window frames? That shade is absolutely gorgeous. Nice job! I had pocket doors once. I’ll have them again and this time they’re getting that paint color!

Heather: They are top-hung, and the hardware didn’t need any repairs! I don’t think they were used much at all. There’s another pocket door between the front hall and the living room, and someone had put a 3-inch screw through the wall to permanently hold it in the open position. Weird, but true.

Michelle: Yes, the books are grouped by color!

Tara: Yep, Toucan Black strikes again! It’s a very rich, inky-purple-black.

Oh very beautiful indeed… I would die for some of these! If I had them, I’d definitely have them half-closed all the time, just to be able to look at them!

They’re great indeed! Do you thing they are of the same age as all the other doors, and have you painted them yourself? I just love them!

Lovely. We have single pocket doors, but I love the look of the old doubles.

stunning! my husband and i are so jealous — we just don’t have the right set-up to install pocket doors in our tiny condo apartment.

I love pocketdoors- We have a few in my parents house. My current place _used_ to have pocketdoors. Someone took them out thru the years. I’d get ahold of some reclaimed doors, but some of the space in the pockets now hold electrical wires and a thermostat.

    Hi,

These look brilliant. Would you mind telling me where you got them from because we are renovating our own Victorian house at the moment and need some double pocket doors between our dining room and living room and i reckon these fit the bill!

    thanks v much,

    James
