I’ve started moving things into the white room, and wow, it’s tough to go wrong in there. I could put a stuffed Marmaduke doll from a state fair in there and it would look like high-end design. (Um, not that I plan to.) I’m really trying to restrain myself furniture-wise, and I would like very much to keep the number of pieces in this room to what’s in this photo, a desk chair, and this guy. Storage will be restricted to what will fit in the desk drawer, the Componibili unit, and on shelves in the closet. My internet access is wireless, so there won’t be any cables to deal with.
All that’s left is to hang the black Fir Tree wallpaper on the wall behind the desk, which could possibly happen this weekend.
I really want to paint all of the flooring upstairs white. It improves my whole mood walking into this room!
Here’s quick rundown on what’s in the room and where it came from:
Desk: My father’s old drawing table (adjustable legs removed, drawer front stained black), with VIKA MOLIDEN legs from IKEA (free/$60)
Storage unit: Kartell Componibili unit from DWR Annex ($29)
Stool: vintage Arne Jacobsen design for Fritz Hansen (eBay, $20)

It’s SOOOO beautiful! (And what a relief about the wireless.)
It looks spectacular…can’t wait to see the wallpaper up!
it’s fantastic.
good luck w/ the wallpaper. your idea of using a sharpie on the edges is great. wish I would of thought of that prior to installing ours.
Mmm. White Room! So nice! I love the contrast in the white white skirting, architrave and floor versus the wall white.
I feel the same way about my white floors. You’re right–instant mood lift.
when the sun is shining in too, oh my god.
You’ve made a really great desk. The IKEA legs look really nice.
Everything about this room is great. My white floors were the same – absolute antidote to seasonal affective disorder or grumpiness in general.
It really looks fantastic. Maybe moldy salad will TASTE great in there too!
my envy grows with each passing post…
It looks amazing… but you forgot the trashcan!
so calming… but where’s the moldy salad? We need to test the hypothesis.
Man, I love that storage unit. Really, the whole room. It will be a calming place to work and design. I sure wish my office was wireless. Medical transcriber–a gazillion wires. I finally got wireless mouse and keyboard, so now I have a gazillion minus two.
are you sure? cos I can hook you up… ;->

aw, crap! I didn’t mean to make such a mess of your comments. Apologies. *hanging head*
KELLY!! hahahahah!!! That is hilarious. Seriously though, $54.93 for a 14″ stuffed Marmaduke??
(I fixed the link – no worries!)
Um, okay, maybe I was wrong about the Marmaduke doll.
This space is absolutely breathtaking…the white is surreal. You’ve done a truly amazing job renovating your home and it must feel divine to know the handiwork is your own.
By the way, your blog is fantastic, thanks for sharing this incredible transformation and all of your fabulous finds!
Beautiful!
I too adore that room.
Clear.
Clean.
A perfect place to be.
I love it! I am so envious. I want so badly to paint my floors white! Simplicity seems to make me happy these days. Last week I emptied a room so I could clean it well. It was all I could do to put the furniture back.
Looks beautiful, I’m so happy for you, all your hard work is paying off.
But seriously…one wire behind the desk? Why do I have 96 wires? why?
Anna, what size is this room? In all white, it looks absolutely HUGE!!
wow, this looks like it would be a great place to concentrate. it’s absolutely beautiful!
The desk is just sublime !!!
The Componibili unit reminds me of the Boby Trolley by Joe Colombo. Do you have one of those, too?
Pam: The room is about 10×12′. I haven’t actually measured it, but I know the desk is 5′ wide…
Marc: I do have a knock-off Boby cart (it was my husband’s in high school!), but I find the compartments inconveniently size for the type of things I need to store. It’s currently in the basement housing various wallpapering supplies. :)
Anna, who are you buying from on ebay for all of these great finds? I don’t shop on ebay because I find it to be too overwhelming, and filled with bulk sellers. Would you ever share some of your favorite ebay shops or are they secret? hehe
I am howling at that PhotoShopped pic. Hee!!!
(and I KNOW! fifty bucks for that thing?! As if!)
Alicia: I don’t really buy much on eBay, actually. Sometimes I will just search for a specific thing I’m looking for (like the Jacobsen stool, but that was almost 3 years ago), but I don’t have favorite sellers or anything. The only real tip I can give you is to know the manufacturer of the piece you’re looking for and try searching for that name rather just than the designer. Often the maker’s mark does not include the designer’s name, and the seller may not be savvy enough to list the item with both names.
Nearly all of my finds come from making many trips to antique stores, junk/consignment shops, and flea markets. Craigslist is great, too, but the finds are few and far between – it’s just due to diligence that I ever find anything at all. Believe me, I have plenty of fruitless weekends searching for great stuff!!
Love it!
PS Maybe you should paint Marmaduke? ;)
Brilliant and what a room to declutter the mind!
Brilliant and what a room to declutter the mind!
P.S. – Sorry, forgot to tell you great post!
Want to move in to your place Anna.
I didn’t know a white room could look so wonderful! And the furniture in a white room seem to glow. Maybe I should bring more white to my rooms…
Haha…anytime I see a house for sale that has wood floors in serious need of refinishing, I get all excited about painting them white!
Awesome eBay finds are always the best.
My componibili just came yesterday! boo, i paid full price. I need to get my a$$ to that DWR Annex. One of these days……
so, so good!
I’ve decided to return to white walls after seeing all the great inspiration here and other great design blogs. Question: what is the shade of white on the walls? It looks slightly different than the trim. Like the look…
Oooh, Anna, I cannot wait to see this room after the wallpaper goes up! It is so gorgeous already, and I think having the dark contrast is going to be an exceptional finishing touch!
I already love the room, but can’t wait to see it with the wall paper. I was even more excited to see how you were able to pull the whole thing off, with great, interesting pieces at such a great price. I feel inspired!
I love that desk! I am excited to see how it turns out with the wallpaper.
Cheryl: The walls are Benjamin Moore Moonlight White (flat finish), and the trim/floor are BM Simply White (satin finish). These are great whites for tying together white furniture and textiles that have different undertones!
Wow that looks so sleek and amazing, I love it just as it is, so simple.
wow, loving your blog!
that white room is a breath of fresh air.
clean head, clean thoughts.
It looks gorgeous. So true about white floors. We just painted all the floorboards in our new house white and its amazing the difference it makes to our furniture. Love your desk! Andthe wallpaper is going to be awesome…looking forward to seeing the finished product.
wow. i love that you were able to reuse your dad’s table…very very very creative. well done!
I like how sleek & clean the space is – really modern.
Anna – This room is beautiful! I used white milk paint for the floor of my sun room, but shoes and cat paws have turned it gray, and while I love the chalk finish of the milk paint, it is a nighmare to keep clean because it thins when I scrub it. Have you found the BM floor paint to be scrub-able? Whatever you are doing to keep your floor white and beautiful is working.
