Actually, Naomi, I think you’ll find that the internet wasn’t “invented” so much as it has evolved over a long period of time beginning in the late 1960s. Compuserve started offering email services in 1979, and I had friends using bulletin boards and the like all through the ’80s.

Putting the subject in context, however, the year you need to look at is 1997 — the year that Ticketmaster began selling tickets online. In 1994 (the year referenced in this post), that wasn’t an option. Thus, even people who “couldn’t afford” internet access had to buy their tickets in flesh just like everyone else.

Morrisey cancelled his show at the FIB in Spain four years ago. I get there by train from other city far ago, with no hotel or camp. I slept at the beach and came back home without seeing him. After that, I saw him last summer in Madrid!

p.s. – my dad used to camp out for tickets for me! not my choice though, my mom was really overprotective and never would have let me sleep on the sidewalk.

I’ve slept out too (not in NYC though–yikes!) for tickets and I canNOT imagine allowing my kids to do it now. My mom was way cooler than I am!!
