Art + Design + I Want This

Hot pink wish list.

I seem to have been pegged as living in an “all black and white” home (which I think is kind of funny, considering how much bright color there is all over the place in my house—I love color!), but there’s a really special place in my heart for hot pink. It just looks so good alongside wood and creamy whites and grays! The hot pink pillows in my living room always make me happy, and in my upstairs hallway, my eye always goes right to that hot pink Cure poster.

I try not to make gender-based associations with colors, and honestly, I really don’t see hot pink as being particularly feminine. Evan has a hot pink tie (wish I had a photo; he looks great in it), and I’m pretty sure he doesn’t feel especially girlie when he wears it, you know? Colors are don’t know if we’re boys or girls…they’re here to make ALL of us happy.

So yes, anyway, here’s my hot pink wish list!

1. Yes, that’s a hot pink Thonet chair. You know, there’s really nothing a Thonet chair can’t do. They look good with traditional furniture, they look good with modern furniture, and they look good in screaming-bright hot pink. ABC Home is taking orders now for delivery this month. [Via Jaime at Design Milk, who’s putting them in her new house.]

2. 7.5 lbs of wrench. If you have $475 lying around that you want to spend on a hot pink, giant decorative wrench, I highly recommend that you head over to Iacoli & McAllister and give them your money immediately. It comes in a “laser etched custom pine crate”, and maybe (maybe!) it’ll be hand-delivered by the guy in the photo. [EDIT: The awesome pink wrench model has been identified as photographer Frank Correa. Thanks, Bree!]

3. Adjustable wood & stonewear vase. I first spotted this super-awesome vase from ¿adónde? on Lisa Congdon’s “It List” at SFGirlbyBay, and I’m totally smitten with it. I love how configurable it is, and also that it kind of looks like a giant crayon. Want.

Do you have a hot pink wish list?

I didn’t until I saw your list and now I’m pining for those hot pink Thonet chairs.

    • Anna @ D16 June 3, 2011 at 10:56 am

Yeah, me too! There is absolutely no way I can justify bringing any more chairs into the house, though. Alas.

  • Reply Jaime from Design Milk June 3, 2011 at 10:51 am

I’m only putting them in my new house if the husband approves…!

I always have a hot pink wishlist. I want hot pink toenails this year.

    • Anna @ D16 June 3, 2011 at 10:55 am

Tell him the internet says to APPROVE, APPROVE, APPROVE!

And I want pink toenails, too. I was actually looking for just the right shade the other day, but I don’t think I’ve quite found it yet. I need to try Essie Flirty Fuchsia, maybe.

    • Jaime from Design Milk June 3, 2011 at 10:58 am

I almost want to do that 80s neon pink… The kind that hurts your eyeballs.

    • michelle June 3, 2011 at 11:51 am

Illamasqua as the most righteous hot pink nail polish. It’s ridiculously over priced (about 17 bucs) but it is HOT pink.

  • Reply Michelle June 3, 2011 at 11:01 am

I love this color too! I’m planning on painting my basement stairs white & then slicing up hot pink FLOR tiles to use as stair treads. I’m hoping the happy & bright pop of color will make it more enjoyable to head down there & do laundry. I’m sure it will work just like that. Hehe. 🙂

I need that wrench in my life! I love collecting pink tools but none of mine are as massive as that one. I think you’ve just shown me something dangerous!!!

  • Reply Rebecca June 3, 2011 at 11:36 am

I need two of these Thonet chairs ASAP.

  • Reply Kathy June 3, 2011 at 11:45 am

I’d have to say a hot pink SMEG! Not sure if they even make them in hot pink but I’d be another one if it did!

And I just picked up a hot pink bike for my daughter today… kind of a hot pink day. 🙂

  • Reply Jen Ray June 3, 2011 at 11:58 am

Oh holy hot pink! I need these ALL
(Except that I too have been banned from bringing new chairs home.)
    All so great though.

Ooh, I love hot pink. I don’t care if anybody thinks it’s girlie. I’m 48 & I wear it all the time (including right now). My kids can find me really fast among all the other parents when they get out of school. 🙂

I love my hot-pink Snille chair from Ikea, which cost me all of $23, I believe. As long as I have a little pillow for back support, it’s as comfortable as an expensive office chair. (I’ve found I really need the right kind of chair for sitting at a desk, & this one has a little give in the back.) Not as pretty as the Thonet, but I don’t think I could use that as an office chair. That’s what I’m saying, anyway. 🙂

I swear, every post you post makes me more and more convinced that we are actually best friends separated at birth. I too am obsessed with hot pink. My favorite semi-recent addition to my wardrobe is a pair of hot pink wellies from Hunter. Men love them. Little girls love them. And most importantly, I love them. I also kind of want zebra-striped socks to go inside of them. I’m also convinced that I was actually born in Jersey, my parents just want me to THINK I was born in Kansas. But that’s another story for another day.

It’s only recently that I’ve come around to the ways of hot pink. This hot pink quilt is the thing that changed everything for me.

That said, now that I’ve accepted into my life, I can’t get enough!

I super-looooove hot pink! All my craft fair booth displays are painted hot pink and it is probably the #1 paint color I use in my work too.

I love hot pink when it’s just just right! (My husband would love if I would stop bringing it up as an option.)

  • Reply melani rae June 3, 2011 at 3:42 pm

I painted the wall in my entry hall ‘Sputnik’ (hot pink). I loved it so much I wanted to eat it. It’s one of my favorite colours.

I’ve been lusting after that pink chair for months. It’s going to need to live in my house somewhere, just not sure where.

  • Reply Julia June 3, 2011 at 7:21 pm

I want that WRENCH even though I’m not a pink person generally ! It’s hilarious and adorable!!!

    • Anna @ D16 June 3, 2011 at 7:24 pm

I know, I love it. Either that or I love the way they’ve marketed it!!

  • Reply Monica June 3, 2011 at 7:45 pm

Hmmm, I have a Thonet barstool that I have been meaning to paint since I tried staining it an espresso brown about 8 years ago. I was thinking yellow, but the pink chair is fab.

  • Reply katrina June 4, 2011 at 1:06 am

    wow, that chair is wild!

yes, i have a couple of hot pink obsessions, too, both in the arena of good footwear.

    1. dr. martens 1461 two tone shoes black/red (looks hot pink to me)

    2. dr. martens 1461 dot flock shoe (just pink, but oh well)

Browsing the SF Chronicle this morning, saw this:

    http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2011/06/02/MNU11JMIUR.DTL

(Apparently, that’s meant to be a RED stucco cube, but to me it looks… hot pink.)

Love the chair! Reminds me of my front door which I never tire of – http://www.mypinkdoor.com.au/colour/i-really-do-have-a-pink-door/

Anna if you’re looking for a hot pink polish try OPI “You’re a Pisa Work” it’s my absolute FAVOURITE!

Thanks, Kisha! I’ll look for it. 🙂

  • Reply Simone June 5, 2011 at 4:49 pm

Haha!!! When I read your story on your new haircut (really like it) I checked out the link to the picture of your old haircut (liked that to but the new one is better). The picture of our old haircut reminded me of Diane Vreeland. But then I thought a hot-pink office with a carpet with a leopard-skin print might not be your cup of tea. And then you write this post.

Funny, I was just thinking a bit of hot pink would spruce up my still quite bland house. Would love the Thonet…

I like this hot pink velvet loveseat. It’s got that old-time parlor look to it:

Not sure what I’d do with a $475 hot pink wrench, but I sleep better just knowing it’s available…

I’m thinking some hot pink flipflops for summer.

I’m in the same boat – black, white and cream colour across my flat. So, I’ve introduced bright pink in each room. Pink princess phone in the stairway; Pink orchids next to white lilies in the living room; Pink filofax and magazine covers in the kitchen. Would love a pink piece of art for the bedrooms. Resisting the temptation to paint one of the all-white kitchen walls pink. May compromise with a pink radio or pink toaster. How pretty…

I’m obviously waaaaaaay behind on my blog reading, but I thought I’d chime in anyway. My whole life is a hot pink wish list. There are some things that are just too childish…but luckily I have a 4 year old who never tires of hot pink. And I do wear these as much as possible: http://www.endless.com/Dolce-Vita-Womens-Pela-Wedge/dp/B0036Z4A20. And when I can’t stand heels, my hot pink Bensimon’s are a stand-in. I can’t get enough bright neon pink…and I think I need that chair – just because.
