I Design Stuff + Life + Health

Neon pink times six.

My love for neon-hot pink continues to abound. I’ve noticed it creeping into my Instagram photos a lot over the past couple of weeks.

ONE I finally ordered a THERE IS THUNDER IN OUR HEARTS tote bag from Fieldguided, and of course I opted for the fluoro pink version. I lovelovelove Kate Bush, by the way. Her new album, 50 Words For Snow, is out next week—but it’s streaming now on NPR.

TWO Why exactly did I buy neon pink duct tape? You got me, but I was at Target and there it was, so home with me it went. I’m presently hoping for something to require duct-taping in the near future. I keep thinking about Bertjan Pot’s duct tape rug, too…

THREE I used neon orange ink for the hardcover edition of this book, but for the paperback (out next June), I went with Pantone 806—my favorite chip in the book, and the hottest neon pink imaginable. It’s not a color I get to use often in printed work, so I seized the opportunity!

FOUR I’ve been working my way through the same bulk package of neon pink highlighters for about 10 years now, and as of yesterday, I’m down to my last one. As Charlie pointed out, the classic Sanford Pocket Accent doesn’t even look like this anymore—in fact, they’ve dropped the Sanford name completely, and are now just branded as Sharpies. Apparently I’ve been doing a highlighter time-warp for the past decade.

FIVE Is there anything that doesn’t look better with neon pink washi tape on it? If there is, I haven’t discovered it yet. Lately I’ve been using it to wrap around packages in lieu of ribbon or string, and as decoration on top of utilitarian packing tape when putting something wrapped in brown paper in the mail.

SIX Despite the fact that my iPhone is basically glued to my side at all times, I still can’t give up my neon Post-it Notes. I always use the pink ones first and hope someone else will take the others! I write everything on Post-Its. I even stick them to my iPhone! And to my wallet. And to the cash inside my wallet. And all over my computer monitor. Like I’ve said before, I’ve gotta write stuff down.

I noticed all the pink too in your Instagrams. I also get obsessed with a color and run with it, so it made me chuckle. As a solid Droid user, I also feel slightly embarrassed by all of my post-it usage!

i’ve had a love affair with this color since grade school. nothing else compares!

I always use the pink post-it notes first, too. The orange and green = LAME. I’ve always had a soft spot for pink too, I wear it a lot. Then reached a certain age and had to think – is this unbecoming? Looking forward to the grandma years so I can rock it with pride.

You could take a nice empty piece of wall and make a drawing or design on the wall and use the ducttape or/and the washi tape to draw it. I once made a huge drawing on a linoleum floor with duct tape. It turned out pretty cool.

My daughter learned how to make wallets and hair bows out of duct tape at Girl Scout camp. Maybe you could do that? 😉

    • Anna @ D16 November 15, 2011 at 12:35 pm

Well, I already have a wallet. 😉 The right use will come around when it comes around!

I definitely stood in Target staring at the rack of duct tape this weekend too. Almost took the Hello Kitty one home with me, but alas I have no real need for it.

Hmm. Have to say that the only time in my life when I was EVER drawn to hot pink was during when I happened to be pregnant… with what turned out to be a girl.

    Hmm!

Well, I do think pretty much constantly about getting a tiny female Chihuahua!

I just painted a wall in my entrance area that kind of pink! I love it.

I too am obsessed with neon pink. I told my mother in law that our “color theme” for Christmas pictures this year should be neon. (I despise color themes) Pretty sure she isn’t going to go for it.
I’ve also been daydreaming about buying a brick house painting it a rich charcoal and making the window trim and doors neon pink. I seriously can’t stop thinking about pink.

    Pink obsessed, too!

I’m at a loss for any witty words right now (my brain is just straight-up fried) but I had to pop in and say that I love this post. I’m loving any shade of neon paired with neutrals right now. I need to find a way to incorporate more of it into my life. xo!

Long time lurker, first time poster, but just wanted to say it’s great to have you back Anna! I missed hearing from you!

I went to Target recently and had my eye on the hot pink duct tape too. I stood there, wanting it, trying to think of what I could use it for, but I came up with nothing. Next time I go, I’m getting it.

When I thought I could not love youre blogg more than I already do, you bring Kate Bush into the mix 🙂 still remember hearing Wuthering Heights in 1978 (yes I am that old 😉 I was 21) one of my most vivid memories, still love her to death, listening to the new record while writing this, have the best day Anna.

haha, I’m a post-it freak, too. And I put them on my iPhone also. 🙂 Crazy, I know.

I recently discovered that masonry line is hot pink. It’s a really good shade, too.

So not only are you super organized, your handwriting is perfectly neat.

Please find a way to bottle your magic.

I’m a writer, too – I think it’s something to do with muscle-memory, because even if I lose my lists I can usually still remember what’s on them. Despite Google calendars, smartphones & all the rest I still rely on my trusty, over-stuffed Filofax (studded with post-its!) to keep me organised & knowing where I need to be.

I leave post it notes on my Iphone too. My husband makes fun of me for it.

An alert can be dismissed people, brightly colored sticky note…not so much. 🙂

Thank you, Anna! I now know I’m not the only one with hot pink creeping into my day-to-day. I’m welcoming it with open arms.

What is the pink tape (picture #2) on – is that flooring or tile? Please share the details!!!

Thanks, Anna, for the Kate Bush streaming link. She is one of my greats.
There was an interview with her today on “Q” (a CBC radio show). You can listen to it here: http://www.cbc.ca/q/blog/2011/11/22/kate-bush-on-q/

Anna, today I saw some neon pink twine at the hardware store and remembered this post, I saw it in the ‘safety’ section where they also have neon tapes, vests etc. Thought you might be interested? Love your blog btw.

I totally agree with you about pink post it notes. Even though I’ve this new fangled Mac, the bottom of the screen is covered in pink post it notes. Never did quite get used to the stickies that comes with Apply products.

I’m suddenly nostalgic for my black and hot pick polka-dot leggings à la 3rd grade. I’m drawn to all things pink as well…most recently celebrated with a cute, neon pedicure!
Thanks for sharing – great pics, as always.

I have that Fieldguided’s tote and she just custom made me a HOT PINK tote. So amazing, I think I squealed.

I think the appreciation of hot pink takes a strong personality.
