Inspiring Interiors

Yeah, I could live there.

Beckman Villa, Stockholm // DAPstockholm, 2004

Welcome to a new, semi-regular D16 feature: Yeah, I could live there. Wherein I post pictures of houses I want to break into, kick out the inhabitants and move in.

Earlier today I was on the DAPstockholm website looking for pictures of these amazing rowhouses they designed a while back (how cool is that black–gray gradation of exterior colors?!), and this villa in Stockholm caught my eye.

White on the sunny/water side, black on the shady/trees side—it’s got Anna written all over it, right? These photos were taken in 2004. I wonder what it looks like now that those little trees are probably a lot more mature. Must be heaven…

Yeah, I could live there.

p.s. Twenty bucks says my mother gasped out loud when she saw these photos. (Did you, Mommy?)

Yeah, Anna, but if you lived here than I would have to break in and kick YOU out because I want it all to MYSELF!

Okay…I gotta quit whining and go make dinner…but I want to go there. NOW.

You are right! This reminds me so much of the summer house your Danish grandfather built. It was perched on a hilltop above the water exactly like this. It was also a rectangular box with a porch on the front, except that it had on extra room added on one side (originally the shed that he used as his workshop and “home” while he built it) and a mudroom by the entrance. The large main room was partly divided in the middle by a wall that consisted of a fireplace on the living room side and a wood cooking stove on the kitchen side. I know he would have loved the modern look of this one!

    Hi Anna;
I think this is probably going to be my favourite feature on your blog!
This is the house I have obsessed about for a while:

I just love the atmosphere in the pictures.
Love your new rug by the way.
    Have a wonderful day!!!

Right, still thinking about this and came up with these:
http://www.hunsettmill.co.uk/ love love love (we have childeren so we need a bit more space(s))
    And look at this: http://www.living-architecture.co.uk/the-houses/dune-house/overview/
The story behind this is very remarkable. Alain de Botton -a Swiss philofiser (not sure how to write that)- had inherited a lot of money from his father (I think something like 400 million pounds). One of his books is about how Architecture can make you happy. With his inheritence he started a foundation (among other things) that builds houses by famous architects in beautiful places (in England) that you can rent in order to experience good remarkable architecture. I also really love the shingle house in this series that is very close to Derek Jarman’s holiday house (there is a really beautiful book about that house). Several of these houses have won huge architecture prizes. Peter Zumtor is in the proces of building a house for this foundation as well, very curious what will come from that. The houses are booked solid though. The dune house is fully booked until 2014 (they are not accepting reservations for 2014)!

Derek Jarman’s house is absolutely amazing! I think I blogged about it a long time ago.

Great idea for a feature! It’s so fun to dream about a place you’d love to live and the internet has kicked it up a notch with all the eye candy available with a click of the mouse. The funny thing is… I’m sure there are (I couldn’t even give a number… lets try hundreds)… hundreds of people who probably dream about living in the home you are so lucky to have RIGHT NOW! They’d probably kick you out, move in, and feel like THEY were living a dream. Your current place is pretty fab too!

Fun idea…. looking forward to all that follows. As for this place… it would be torture… but I’d survive. HA HA!

The Beckman villa reminds me so much of a house build with a view over the sea in the northern part of Seeland/Sjælland, DK. It also reminds me of a picture of a summerhouse build by the famous danish architect Poul Henningsen way back in the early 1960’ies (I think).
I have dreamed of such a house for years – so much actually that I made sketches of it;-))

the uncluttered clean-ness of the interior of that house would be a balm on my central nervous system, I need a place like that

I could definitely live on a lake. This place looks great! The outside of the house looks simple enough. I could think of all kinds of things to decorate the inside with. I’d add a hot tub on the deck as well.
