APT: DUMBO + Places + Travels

Still waiting.

Here are some iPhone photos of the scene in DUMBO, Brooklyn, at around 1PM Monday afternoon. It’s rainy and windy and the water is rising a bit, but nothing significant yet. Our corner market, Peas & Pickles, is still open and doing brisk business. I stopped in to La Bagel just as they were selling out of the rest of their fresh stock and getting ready to close for the day.

Red Hook is already flooding, as are Battery Park and the Gowanus Canal (ugh). I’ve heard that trees are coming down in other parts of Brooklyn. So we’re doing well in DUMBO for now. Of course, Sandy is still far away…

I’m not sure where else to put these photos, but I figured I’d post them in case any Zone A evacuees are wondering what things are looking like around the Manhattan Bridge right now. Unless the wind intensifies to a point where it could be unsafe for me to go up on the roof deck of my apartment building, I’ll take a few more snaps later today and this evening and post them as well.

lucky ducks! the hudson has toppled over the banks on the jersey city side, flooding the newport area, and heading further west! lets all cross our fingers it doesn’t reach my street 😛

the ban on driving in jersey city has left me inside watching movies all day, a much needed day of rest none the less!

    cheers.

It’s so weird to be on the other side of the world and watching this all unfold online… what a scary night you are in for! I hope there’s not too much damage.

But with all that fear, your photos are so eerily beautiful. x

So your area isn’t an evacuation area? I thought maybe this whole thing was another over-forecasting by the news channels but I am kinda changing my mind… We don’t have cable so I can’t keep up on it except online and from others… Stay safe!

I’ve been watching all the coverage and following your twitter updates from Toronto all night. What a nightmare! I’m glad you guys and the dogs are safe and ok — stay that way! I love New York, and I know the city will pull together to get through this, but it will be very hard. Sending safe happy and dry vibes your way!

hurricane aside (and I know thats not easy when the experience is being lived), the views from you building are incredible. best of luck for the return of calm sunny times to enjoy them.

—sent from the dense tropical jungles of papua new guinea … yes, you’re being read, and emotionally supported, from everywhere. take care.
