Music + Movies + Books + Vanity + Wearables

Your frankly vulgar Moz pullover.

I freaked out the other day when I got an email announcing that pre-orders are now being accepted for the new line of Morrissey sweaters from VIVA MOZ. I want them all. The gray Smiths sweater with the daffodils even made me want to put together one of those “outfit montage” things that Real Bloggers® are always posting:

1. The Smiths daffodils sweater, VIVA MOZ
2. Curvy Skinny jeans, Gap*
3. Long striped scarf, Madewell
4. Thatcher glasses, Warby Parker
5. Carson oxfords, Frye

*Side note about the Gap Curvy Skinny jeans: If you follow me on Twitter, then you know how enamored I am with these jeans. I wear skinny jeans about 360 days a year, so the fit really matters to me. I know everyone’s body is different, but if you’ve got a large hip/waist ratio and tend to have that problem with jeans gapping at the back and requiring a belt, these are for you. I recommend going down a size (or two!), though, because that “vanity sizing” thing Gap does is totally out of control.

I have a weird thing where I don’t like to wear shoes that don’t come up over my ankles unless the top of my foot is exposed—I’m convinced my legs look like parsnips unless I’m either wearing boots or sandals—so I keep hesitating and not buying a pair. Jen was wearing these Frye oxfords when she was here last week, though, and I kept eying them with envy. I feel like my inner nerd (who, coincidentally, is also my outer nerd) really wants to wear oxfords…parsnip legs and all.

But enough about my parsnip legs! LOOK AT THESE SWEATERS! (By the way, if you think you want one of these sweaters for yourself or a loved one, I suggest you pre-order before the sale date. They always sell out fast once they’re knitted and stocked.)

Evan has owned the original green one for a few years, and I have the football scarf. They’re both pretty rad, as evidenced by my mother and Evan, who are making their second joint modeling appearance on D16 this week (here’s the first). I’ve posted these photos before, but how could I leave them out? Fashion plates, those two.

I am still lamenting my lost ‘Rank’ tee from 1988. It irked my math teacher so bad when I wore it to school camp that he made fun of me for it. They are now selling for up to $800 online.

WHAT!!!!! I have lots of old Smiths/Moz t-shirts (and records and posters and…). I never get rid of any of that stuff. Maybe I should consider it my retirement plan?

  • Reply jennifer November 9, 2012 at 12:29 am

Oh man. I am so buying the grey one! The only question is whether to get the Old English Morrissey one as well. How is the sizing? (They only list chest size, and I’m kind of in between sizes.)

    • Anna @ D16 November 9, 2012 at 12:38 am

The one Evan is wearing in the photo is a small, and it’s pretty darned small. I’ve never tried it on, but I know it would be TIGHT on me. I’m a busty size 8 and I think I would need the large. I like stuff with crew necks to fit a little loose on me, though.

    • Jennifer November 9, 2012 at 2:36 am

Awesome. That is very helpful. Sometimes unisex sizing means giant & baggy and sometimes not!

  • Reply Jules November 9, 2012 at 12:40 am

I have parsnip legs, too, and I only wear skinny jeans with boots, if I wear skinny jeans at all. But those oxfords…I don’t know if I can resist them. My 40th birthday is in two weeks. I think I deserve oxfords, don’t you?

    • Anna @ D16 November 9, 2012 at 12:51 am

      Yes. Yes I do.

thanks for the heads up, you sort my husbands Christmas gift every year for me!

    • Anna @ D16 November 9, 2012 at 9:38 am

Now I’m very curious about what you’ve bought him in years past! Fancy nail polish? Chihuahuas? 😉

  • Reply MareePSasja November 9, 2012 at 3:01 am

I got the same email. I showed great restraint and only ordered the grey Smiths one…

    • Anna @ D16 November 9, 2012 at 10:20 am

Me too. I hope I don’t regret not getting the other ones later when they’re all sold out…

Yes! I have a pair of Frye boots (Veronica slouch) in the same color, and they just look better and better every year.

  • Reply Sarah November 9, 2012 at 7:55 am

I so recommend those Frye oxfords. I bought them in black a couple of months ago and I adore them–with jeans, skirts, fancy suit pants, everything. And bonus: they are super comfortable. I threw them on the first day with no socks and they didn’t rub anywhere.

    • Anna @ D16 November 9, 2012 at 10:19 am

I think it’s the heel height that makes them so versatile! Fryes never give me any blisters, either. I can always wear them right out of the store and walk in them all day.

Heads up curvy peeps, I found the dark wash of the GAP curvy skinny jeans on sale yesterday. And Holy Sh*t. They fit like a dream.

    • Anna @ D16 November 9, 2012 at 10:15 am

I just noticed that the stores don’t have them in stock anymore, and they only have the dark ones online. Does this mean they’re being discontinued?!?! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

I lol’d at the parsnip legs and also the “Real Bloggers” comment. You are the real-est blogger I read, i feel like I can hear your voice when I read your blog, except I’m Australian so in my head you have an Aussie accent. This is a rambly comment because it’s like 1am here and I am a little delirious.

    • Anna @ D16 November 9, 2012 at 10:18 am

Haha!! You definitely do NOT want to hear me attempt an Australian accent. I’m sure it would come out sounding like Dick Van Dyke’s Cockney accent in Mary Poppins, only much, much worse and without the charm.

(Thank you for this comment, by the way, because I felt really anxious about doing an “outfit post.” I’m not sure I’m the right person to be giving any sort of fashion advice!!)

    • Jules November 9, 2012 at 10:47 am

That surprises me to read that, Anna. My first thought when I read your post last night was that your outfit post was the most realistic one I’ve seen in a long time! (Realistic is the highest form of praise online, in my book.) You have a nice mix of price points and every piece is and edgy classic sure to last for years. I loved all of it.

      Also, you posted a Morrissey video. I usually claim to hate all music from the 80s, but I forget how in love I was/am with The Smiths, The Cure, and other bands that most definitely did not suck. No comment on some of the commercially popular New Romantics bands from the 80s. {{shudder}}

    • Anna @ D16 November 9, 2012 at 10:54 am

There was a whole LOT of music in the ’80s that did not suck, as evidenced by my entire music collection. 😉

And yeah, if there’s anything you can say about my wardrobe, “realistic” is definitely it. I pretty much wear the same thing every day, just with a different scarf!!

  • Reply Mariane November 9, 2012 at 12:14 pm

I like when you do these posts (or any posts actually). You will have to show us the real outfit on you when you receive your shirt though! Have a superb week end!

  • Reply Kelly November 9, 2012 at 2:21 pm

I was super jealous of your “shoplifters” bag and was totally planning on getting one when he came to Mpls- but then the shows got cancelled! Today’s post made me hope that they were available on viva moz, but no luck! I might have to console myself with a bobble head for my car…
Enjoy the blog- thank you for sharing.

Anna, I, too, love these posts on fashion/style. I also tend to go kind of utilitarian with my wardrobe, where things are sort of pared down and uniform. It makes things practical and easy, but there are still ways to mix it up/inject a bit of fun by switching up scarves, like you mentioned, and other accessories. I would love if you’d write more about your favorite clothes and shoes/boots. How would you define your “look”?

  • Reply Hanna November 9, 2012 at 6:09 pm

I think my legs look like parsnips too! I never likened it to that, I always compared it to one of those tacky wooden lawn decorations of the female pig bending over in a dress. HAHAHA

  • Reply Jana November 9, 2012 at 6:39 pm

GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Which one to order, the black and orange or just the simple Morrissey stiching from You are the Quarry? Help

    • Anna @ D16 November 9, 2012 at 6:54 pm

      Black and orange!! It’s hilarious.

    • Jana November 13, 2012 at 11:42 am

‘Twas the avenue I went and bought!

  • Reply Amy November 12, 2012 at 4:44 pm

I loved your outfit post…..you have a style that I envy. And thanks for the tip on the jeans. I’ve been sketchy of Gap jeans because the last pair I bought got a hole in them in record time. Must try again (another hippy gal).

    • Anna @ D16 November 12, 2012 at 6:55 pm

I definitely think Gap clothes are hit or miss. So far (5 months, maybe?) these have held up quite well, though, knock wood!

  • Reply jo November 26, 2012 at 7:07 pm

I bought the Gap jeans & love them.
    No gap at theback waist.
    Shazam.

    • Anna @ D16 November 26, 2012 at 7:09 pm

YES. I am crossing my fingers so tightly that they aren’t discontinued. Clearance sales always make me nervous!!

  • Reply Menena December 22, 2012 at 4:14 pm

I ordered the Starlight Sweater and it fit so good that I ended up getting the Old English one as well. Would it be totally excessive to get the The Smiths Daffodils sweater now that they’ve put more in stock?
