HEY!!! It’s time to order your 2013 Stendig calendar!

Consider this a public service announcement!

Every year I buy Massimo Vignelli’s Stendig calendar just in the nick of time before they sell out (that’s last year’s hanging in the kitchen at my old apartment), and every year I get a bunch of emails from people wondering if I know of anyplace they can order a Stendig calendar from because they waited too long and it’s too late. Well, not this year!! I’m here to remind you to GO BUY A STENDIG CALENDAR NOW if you want one, because there are only 34 days left in the year (*GULP*) and before you know it you’ll be all sad about that big empty rectangular space on your wall. Or sad about the fact that it’s perpetually December 2012 because you don’t want to take the last page down. Either way, it’s time.

The only reason I’m on top of my Stendig game this year is because my mother just emailed me asking if I wanted her to order one for me along with hers (she’s also a devotee). Thanks, Mommy!

Looking back at Stendigs past! In 2008 it hung in the former-office-that-was-previously-a-bedroom-and-is-now-a-bedroom-again at the house. This photo makes me really want some bright pink tulips in my life. It also makes me think maybe we should switch the office and bedroom again…hmmm.

Wondering what to do with those giant sheets of beautiful black and white Helvetica numerals when the month is over? Don’t throw them away, use them as gift wrap! For the past decade I’m pretty sure every gift I’ve given has been wrapped in a month. Depending on the required fanciness level, I either add twine, silver ribbon or neon washi tape.

I usually buy my Stendig calendars from Sam Flax since they’re local and have the best price, but you can also get them from Unica Home, Vetted, Schoolhouse Electric, Stendig Calendar (appropriate shop name!) and probably a bunch of other places. Crate & Barrel has already sold out online, but still you might be able to find them in the stores.

Update! I was asked about UK retailers on Facebook. Looks like Zoma Design Store has them in stock. Shipping from the US overseas would probably be crazy high because they’re huge and surprisingly heavy, so it’s best to look for a local distributor.

I grabbed mine in September this year after an mad scramble last year. Those things sell out so quickly.

  • Reply Tiffanie November 27, 2012 at 5:32 pm

Yes, as awesome for gift wrapping as it is as a calendar, for sure!

Got one!! Thanks for the reminder! I can’t wait to hang it up in my place. 🙂

They make a cool background for monthly pictures of little ones

We have a full 12 month series (I’m stopping there though).

Ahhh! That’s such a cute idea.

I grabbed one finally this year! I had no idea how HUGE they were! I almost think they should come with a warning that NYC apartments with limited wall space beware.

    • Anna @ D16 November 27, 2012 at 6:53 pm

Haha! I read an interview somewhere with Massimo Vignelli where he said he designed a smaller version for people with less wall space but it was discontinued. I know what you mean, though—I can’t fit one in my new apartment, so it’s relegated to the house.

Just wanted to put in a little plug for the midwest… I have regularly been able to get one well into the year (once as late as June) at Russell & Hazel in Minneapolis. Curiously, it’s not available on their website. I had no idea they were a sell-out item until now… and I’m suddenly nervous that maybe 2013 is the year to end procrastination 🙂

    • Anna @ D16 November 27, 2012 at 7:19 pm

Y’know…even if they’re not likely to sell out at your local shop, I think it’s probably worthwhile to buy your new calendar before JUNE. 😉

    • Martha November 28, 2012 at 9:05 am

True enough. It was an odd year… I thought I was done w/ Stendig, only to break down in June to have it up again. I’m glad I did.

There you go again.. more perfect gift ideas for my husband. Thanks!

😀 I hope he doesn’t read my blog, Cate!

thanks for the reminder! i can’t imagine how sad we’d be with a giant December 2012 on our wall for all of 2013.

Other than adding a bit of style to my office, the Stendig calendar performs a really important function for me. Because of its generous size it covers all the nail holes I have made in the wall over the years. Now I can put off painting my office another year!

    • Anna @ D16 November 28, 2012 at 12:51 am

I thought you were going to say that the “really important function” is helping to keep track of the current date. Silly me! 🙂

Thanks for the reminder! For my fellow Europe-residents who don’t want to pay in pounds, you can get it at the German site Rikiki: http://www.shop-rikiki.de/shop/Schere-Stein-Papier/The-Stendig-Calendar-2013.html

  • Reply planktonfisher November 28, 2012 at 4:30 am

I really would like to have one, but unfortunately they cost around 100$ in Germany for some reason…this is way too expensive for me.

  • Reply Zoma Design Store November 28, 2012 at 6:29 am

Thanks for mentioning Zoma Design Store, It’s really appreciated.

We’re happy to arrange shipping all over Europe for anyone that might be interested, just contact us and we’ll give you a price. As a rough guide, it’s been about £20-£30 so far to the countries we’ve shipped to (France, Spain, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden & Greece.) Expensive, I know, but as Anna has mentioned, these calendars are very large & pretty heavy when boxed. Hope that helps!

    Hello Anna,

I can’t get hold of these in Singapore but I will be making a trip to the US in Jan. Do you think I can lug one home as a carry-on? Are they rolled up in a tube or do they come in a box? Thanks in advance 🙂

    • Anna @ D16 November 28, 2012 at 9:30 am

Sky, I don’t know enough about carry-on regulations to answer that part of the question, but they come rolled up in a very sturdy tube!

    • sky November 30, 2012 at 9:02 am

Thanks, Anna. Oh well, I’m going to take my chances and order one 😛 If I can’t bring it back, I’ll just leave it with my american friend or a random stranger at the airport 😛

For those of you in Toronto – Crate & Barrel @Yorkdale still has some in stock. But hurry – they don’t have many!

  • Reply Rebecca November 28, 2012 at 3:17 pm

You’ve convinced me so I just ordered my first one ever. I’m probably going to be hooked too.
This is where I found mine http://www.stendigcalendar.com

  • Reply Elia November 28, 2012 at 3:31 pm

I got a Stendig from Zoma, it’s currently flattening under some books!
Now I just need to figure out where and how to hang it up 🙂
I think I have 5 different calendars, too many maybe? Probably means I’m terrible with dates.

  • Reply Christian November 28, 2012 at 6:39 pm

I’m holding mine in crate and barrel yorkdale Toronto as I comment. There’s 4 left!

    • Anna @ D16 November 28, 2012 at 7:22 pm

Hah! You and Aliza are live-blogging the Yorkdale C&B.

  • Reply Heather November 28, 2012 at 10:26 pm

If anyone is looking for a Stendig in the Boston area, Bob Slate Stationer in Harvard Square still had ten in stock as of this evening. The woman who rang me up said that they usually don’t sell out until well into January. (They don’t have a web shop but do take phone orders.)

    • Anna @ D16 November 28, 2012 at 10:41 pm

      Thanks for the tip, Heather!

  • Reply dewofthedesert November 29, 2012 at 9:06 am

Also for those in Boston/South Shore area – the Crate&Barrel at Derby Shoppes still has some. I just grabbed a second one yesterday but they only had a few left so hurry!

  • Reply Lizzie November 29, 2012 at 6:24 pm

Ahh, thank you for the reminder. I’ve wanted one of these for the last two years, but every time I get ready to buy one, I spend the money on Christmas stuff for OTHER people instead. So I think this year some people will be getting cards and I will be getting a Stendig.

  • Reply Sherrie December 5, 2012 at 1:04 am

Love this. Could you tell me how thick the paper is and if the backside is transparent or opaque? Could you see the numbers through the back? I have frames in this size that ive been meaning to fill with personal drawings and reusing these sheets for that purpose once the months have passed would be alot cheaper then paying 20+ for one blank sheet in that size. Thanks!

    • Anna @ D16 December 5, 2012 at 1:09 am

Sherrie, the paper isn’t thin, but you can definitely see a hint of the numbers through the back—it’s just so high-contrast.

    • Sherrie December 5, 2012 at 10:06 pm

I guess thats a sign of good printing. Thanks Anna!

  • Reply Erica P. December 7, 2012 at 4:10 pm

Any idea where I can purchase one that would ship internationally? I always buy my bestie a calendar for Christmas. She would love this, but she lives in Germany which makes things a bit more tricky.

tardy to the party! I just ordered mine from your Stendig Calendar link. I’m so glad they still had some in stock, and great customer service! They responded right away that it will be shipping out on Friday the 4th.

Super late to the party also!
Does anyone know any stockists that ship to Australia?
Most of the links listed only ship within the States… or they are extremely expensive!

    Cheers
    Danielle 🙂

Danielle, I bought mine from http://www.beautifulpages.com.au/products/2013-stendig-calendar-1-x-copy-delivered (you can also pick up from their store in Sydney). Unfortunately, they are now sold out, but keep them in mind for the 2014 calendar.
