Art + Design + I Want This

The prettiest nails ever.

Winsome Brave Equilateral Nails

I’ve been meaning to blog about these gorgeous bronze Equilateral Nails for a while now, but now that I’ve finally gone ahead and ordered a box for myself, I have to mention them! They come from Winsome Brave, a Brooklyn-based design studio founded by Valerie Gnaedig and Annie Lenon. And they have triangular heads (the nails, not Valerie and Annie).

It probably goes without saying that these nails aren’t the kind you’d use for building furniture, but rather to use in place of a hook or pin to hang something on the wall in an extra-fancy way. I’m not sure what I’m going to use mine for, but I’m betting it’s going to involve a black wall and some necklaces! Right now my tiny collection of jewelry is just in a bowl in my bedside table, and I avoid wearing necklaces because I don’t feel like having to deal with detangling them.

Such pretty, special little things!

Those are pretty cute. You could probably drape a light scarf over them, too. As long as you don’t cover up the little triangle 🙂

I so enjoyed this post — particularly because I almost didn’t click through from the title in my Reader — because I thought it was about fingernails and I didn’t care! Fortunately I remembered that I don’t tend to follow blogs that spend a lot of time on fingernail art.

Hah! I wondered if anyone would get the wrong idea from the title. I do love the other kind of nails as well 😉

I experienced a similar confusion on twitter when you posted a photo of the latest calgel. Because instagram has changed how images are displayed on twitter – and I didn’t have time to follow the link – I briefly convinced myself your nails somehow matched these nails. And then I saw the photo. (Both types of nails look great by the way. I’ve ordered a box, although I’ve no idea where I’ll put them. And I’ll refrain from wittering on, again, about my calgel experiences.)

Haha! Oh dear. Well, they’re both golden! 🙂

I was just going to buy some of these for the exact same purpose. I keep putting it off though because I want my walls painted first. I should probably just buy them before they no longer sell them.

That triangular heads line made me giggle!

They’re beautiful – I’m starting to develop a serious crush on triangles…a little late to the geometric game, but now that I’m here, I’m loving it!

I might need to cave and finally get these soon. I have them on a million different wishlists. And I can totally come up with justifications since I make jewelry and always need new displays and ways to hang my necklaces… right?

these nails are gorgeous! I love the idea of using them to hang jewelry, it would make a nice jewelry collage focal point for a bedroom or bathroom!

    Thanks for sharing!

Ha! Saw these nails a while ago and thought of you (I swear). Fortunately you found them. I love how the grey in your kitchen softens everything up. Are you going to take the fridge in Newburg to your new apartment and get a Smeg? You could use these for hanging kitchen towels as well.
    Have a wonderful day!!!

I don’t know if/when we’ll get a new refrigerator for the house, but if we do, we’ll probably donate the old one to Habitat for Humanity. The apartment is a rental, so there’s already a refrigerator there (in the US it’s very uncommon for renters to install their own appliances).

They would look great as an accent in furniture, too. Are they hard enough? The gold would look amazing against walnut.

    • Anna @ D16 January 31, 2013 at 4:24 pm

The website specifies that they are for decorative use, but if you drilled a pilot hole for the nail and weren’t using it for support/structure/joinery, I don’t see why it would be an issue. You have to chisel out a recess for the head, though.

OK, over here you have to bring your own appliances when you rent a house. I like Habitat. I think a decent house is a primary need in life. That’s what makes the forclosure-issues in the US so very sad in my mind.
    Have a wonderful day!!!

    Hi Anna,

I saw this article about posters based on David Lynch movies and thought you might like to check it out.

Ha. Another person who thought this was about the (beautiful) manicure you posted on Instagram. Love both. The nails remind me of the Of Matter earrings you posted about a while ago. Earrings that I just received from Fab last week. I am such a copy cat. 🙂

I bought these bronze nails a long time ago. They are sooo cute but one tiny tap and it bends so easily. I drilled a hole instead of using the pilot nail (too small). I was very, verrrrry, verrrrrry gentle with my mini hammer and it still bent like crazy. I still think they are cool but wish it was stronger.

    • Anna @ D16 February 2, 2013 at 3:46 pm

Noted! I’ll be very careful and use a mallet. 🙂

been meaning to get these! perfect for hanging necklaces!

  • Reply peggy February 7, 2013 at 12:06 pm

I’m an avid believer that everything should be beautiful! I adore these. At first I thought I’d like to use them to hang necklaces. But after a second look, I think I’d hang them in some kind of a pattern to stand alone as art, they are that gorgeous. I also love the box, and the type. Looking forward to seeing how you use them.

Really beautiful. If only the everyday stuff could be so pretty. I’m forever looking for nice looking screws with decent heads which seem so hard to find.

I love these little nails! So much so that we featured them on our holiday 2012 design snob buyer’s guide: http://www.blog.cutmodern.com/holiday-2012-the-design-snob-buyers-guide/.

Just came across your blog – love your style and excited to follow future projects!

How can I find the bronze nails?

    • Anna Dorfman July 26, 2022 at 9:16 am

Hi Kathy, this post is from 2013—it appears the company that made the nails no longer exists.
