Art + Design + I Want This + Inspiring Interiors

Just in case you want to replicate the entire picture in your house.

OK, so maybe this is a little obsessive. Remember that perfect room in my post about the Jacobsen Mayor sofa? Well, I felt compelled to try to track down where every last thing in it comes from, from lamps to textiles to art. And I almost managed to do it! See, this is exactly why I have a blog.

This post is sponsored by the 20oz cup of coffee I had at 10PM last night.

Furnishings and décor first…

doorsixteen_mayorsofaroom_furnishings

1. Hans Wegner Wishbone Chair
2. Ferm Living Copper Cup
3. Kay Bojesen Dog
4. Le Klint 101C pendant lamp
5. Ferm Living Copper Tray (no longer available, alas)
6. Bestlite BL2 Table Lamp
7. Ferm Living Black Stripe Cushion
8. FujiFilm X100S Camera
9. &tradition Arne Jacobsen Mayor Sofa
10. UO Danish Modern Coffee Table (not exactly the same, but close…)
11. IKEA Söften Rug
12. Kähler Love Song Vases

So, it’s driving me CRAZY that I can’t figure out where that pillow with the moon and trees comes from. Does anyone know? Here’s a larger version of the photo. Same for the navy pillow with the tiny dots. And the candle holder. And if you want to get really crazy (I do…) the books on the table. I don’t want to tell you how long I spent trying to decipher what it says on the spine of the bottom book in the stack.

UPDATE: The mystery pillow is by Nord from Kaiku! Thank you, thank you, Camilla!! Yay.

And now on to the artwork…

doorsixteen_mayorsofaroom_artwork

1. “Small Talk,” One Must Dash (also from Artsy Modern in the US)
2. “Elements of Birds I,” Mintstudio
3. “Punk,” Kristina Dam
4. “Lola,” Samantha Totty
5. “Wild Stripes,” RK Design
6. Various exhibition posters from the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Denmark

Unfortunately, it looks like none of the Louisiana exhibition posters are available online, but it’s possible that they still have them for sale at the museum gift shop. I’d love to get my hands on that Walton Ford poster! His work is nuts. For the life of me, I cannot find that blue poster with the big black A on it. At first I thought it might’ve been cut off of the Artek logo, but the counter space is wrong. Any ideas?

UPDATE: The blue A poster is from Playtype. Thank you, Maaret!!

Even though I can’t have THE sofa, I am going to order a few of these prints! The Le Klint lamp is now also on my wishlist. (The only thing in the room I already own is that IKEA rug, which is sort of funny.)

The room of my desire was styled by Nicola Kragh Riis and photographed by Line Klein for ALT Interiør magazine. Nicola is obviously a genius! Here’s Line’s photo again in full, for reference:

      THANK YOU!!!!!!

    • Anna @ D16 December 13, 2013 at 10:52 am

Wow, what a great shop…lots of really nice posters. Thanks again, I didn’t know about Playtype before.

  • Reply Judi December 13, 2013 at 10:59 am

Don’t you think those pillows look like H&M? Obviously not the current collection, but the vibe on the moon one reminds me of their photographic prints, and the other one could easily be one of their prints.

Your second paragraph made me laugh out loud. How many times have I…etc.

By the way, I’ve been meaning to ask…why not save up for that sofa? If it lasts twenty years (or more!), consider the cost per wearing (as it were). If it worked for the SMEG…(I’m not helping with the budget, am I?).

    • Anna @ D16 December 13, 2013 at 11:07 am

Well, the difference with the fridge (other than the fact that the sofa in my fabric choice would be 4x more expensive) is that we had a set budget determined for the kitchen. The fridge fit into that budget because we really, really scrimped in other areas like the tile and the flooring. The kitchen had been patiently waiting for 7 years to get a true renovation. Buying a new sofa to put in your completely renovated living room isn’t really the same thing! There’s nothing to cut. Also, considering we just shelled out an unexpected but unavoidable $7000 for a new boiler…well, I don’t really need to finished that sentence, right? If we’re saving up for anything at this point, it has to be hiring someone to scaffold the front of our house and repair the windows and install new storms.

I’m OK with it just being a fantasy. I’m able to appreciate lots of beautiful things from afar. 🙂

    • Judi December 13, 2013 at 12:11 pm

Ha. You’re exactly like me in terms of budgeting…dream high, realize low (mostly) and no splurges unless it fits into a predetermined plan. I think I was just trying to live vicariously through you (said the woman with the twenty-year old Karlanda sofa bed, the fifteen year old Karlanda couch, and the sagging Billys that are waiting to be replaced in this year’s annual Container Store Elfa sale…or next year’s, considering the cost of our recent propane delivery!). Thank heaven for paint and shopping in the basement, right?

    • Anna @ D16 December 13, 2013 at 12:13 pm

Hah! Yes, I do quite a bit of basement shopping. Good thing I’ve been a furniture packrat for so many years. 😉

  • Reply Maaret December 13, 2013 at 11:00 am

Isn’t it a nice shop? I would also love to visit the Copenhagen concept store some day.

  • Reply Camilla December 13, 2013 at 11:24 am

    Hi there,
I’m from Denmark and maybe I can help with a little information about the posters! I wrote the museumshop of Louisiana last week about the birds poster, and they were very kind to send it to me by airmail, all I had to do was to send my cardinformation! If you just choose contact on the webside, you can write directly to the museumshop.
Merry christmas and best regards, Camilla.

    • Anna @ D16 December 13, 2013 at 11:28 am

Oh, Camilla, thank you so much! Good to know they’re willing to do online transactions. My brother lives in Denmark and is coming to visit NY in the spring…maybe I can have them sent to his house and save on postage. 🙂 🙂

    • Camilla December 13, 2013 at 1:30 pm

You are welcome 🙂 of course you can, thats no problem for them and yes, it might be cheaper for you! Love your blog!
P.s.: the magazine ‘Alt interiør’ is brilliant and comes 4 times a year with the danish magazine ‘Alt for damerne’, maybe your brother could bring that to you as well 🙂

I bet I’m not the only one who LOVES that you invested (<- note deliberate word choice) all that time playing detective on this photo. It's totally fascinating! And I love all the wee details you found in the photo (like the camera). WELL DONE ANNA.

Thanks for doing this! I was drooling over so many of the things in the photo, but I’m lazy. LOLOLOL
Prints! I need ALL the prints! 😀

      Also, Playtype is like JAW+FLOOR!

  • Reply Miss Charming December 13, 2013 at 12:21 pm

I was so taken with the room. Thanks so much for your detective work, Anna! I’ve been slightly obsessed with the gallery wall–especially the Walton Ford. (And thanks for the info, Camilla. I’m glad there is a teeny tiny chance that I can have one of my own.)

Sorry, but I forgot.. The pillowcase with the Moon on it is from ‘by nord’ a danish brand, look at this: http://www.kaiku.dk/vare/7018-by-nord-dreamworld-moon-60*60
This webshop http://www.kaiku.dk is also very great!

CAMILLA!! Yes!!! Thank you, thank you. 🙂 🙂

You know what’s funny? I was actually ON the Kaiku website last night looking at something else, but I never clicked over to the textiles. So close!! Hahaha.

I’m going to sleep well tonight. Phew!!

    • Camilla December 13, 2013 at 3:31 pm

You are very welcome, I’m just trying to be helpful, as my expertise in design is scandinavian 🙂 Ha ha, that is funny 🙂 oh yes you are, especially if you’re sleeping in sheets from ‘by nord’ 😉

Anna, sometimes I love that you drink vast amounts of coffee when you should be sleeping! This is brilliant, I too would love that Walton Ford poster and ‘Lola’ by Samantha Totty. Thanks for all the research (actually I’d like a whole lot more too, I’m trying to be restrained)

  • Reply Marlene December 13, 2013 at 2:06 pm

Wow, this is really impressive! I love that you even found little pieces that I didn’t notice in the photograph at first, like the dachshund!

I decided the 3 next to the dog must be vintage. 😉

I think that’s actually just a redirect to inmod…and it’s out of stock there, too. 🙁 I slacked on ordering that tray when they introduced it, and now I regret it!!

I guess I can try ordering and see what happens!!

Anna, I am pretty sure this is interior design voyeurism and stalking at its best. There needs to be a name for this condition and no, you can’t call it “I drank way too much coffee too late into the night”. 😛

You always surprise me with your research skills. You need your very own sub research form at Google.

I just stumbled across the Small Talk poster in the US at Artsy Modern. I think it’s a little spendier than the one listed in British pounds, but shipping is free.

I love that poster and tracked to Artsy Modern as well! They are offering 10% off orders over $75 (lots of other cute stuff)…….and they have a pop-up at Bryant Park through Jan 5th.

  • Reply Sarah December 14, 2013 at 11:13 am

Thanks for this, Anna! I did this same thing once with a room from the Brooklyn to West home. I love how if you’re determined enough and Google the right combination of things, the internet will deliver. And it would also be pretty easy to create a comparable but lower-priced look with the same tactics.

Do you think the frames are from IKEA?

    • Anna @ D16 December 14, 2013 at 11:31 am

I don’t think I’d do this with a picture of someone’s house as it seems so invasive, but a styled “imaginary” room created for a magazine is different. You know what I mean?

The frames are too thin to be from IKEA, but I’m guessing they’re made of metal.

  • Reply amber December 14, 2013 at 11:52 am

i would love to get my hands on that camera….

    great pieces! happy holidays 🙂

  • Reply megan December 14, 2013 at 6:36 pm

So awesome. Also, it may not be your dream room buy my husband is obsessed with the SECOND room you posted with The Sofa and wants to know where everything in it is from (the pinkish rug, etc.). So fun.

  • Reply Judi December 14, 2013 at 6:51 pm

Update! No wonder I said the pillows ‘looked like H&M.’ In the new collection update for post-holiday winter (which apparently came online this week with zero fanfare) there is a black pillow with tiny white dots, reversible to white with black, that is a clone of that navy pillow but for color. Can’t give you a link because the site doesn’t play well with the iPad for links–sorry! Also, those metal frames are thin but yes, the silver ones could be IKEA…have you seen the new Stromby range? Great quality too BTW and very cost effective (well, not nearly so much for those of us who have to cross into Canada for their nearest IKEA, but still fairly so!).

This is waaaaaaaaaaaaay more fun than it ought to be. Might you want to make ‘crowdsourcing a room’ a regular feature?

    • Anna @ D16 December 15, 2013 at 9:39 pm

I have seen the Stromby frames, yeah! I love the thin profile, but I’d prefer them in black — I’ll have to spray paint a few in spring when the weather warms up a bit. Ribba frames have really declined in quality, so I’m glad they’re offering something more solid.

    • Judi December 16, 2013 at 5:38 pm

Yes! Shame on IKEA for making the Ribba out of cheap paper now. Ugh. I, too, thought of spraying the Strombys black.. Specifically, the Rustoleum 2X Matt Black, of which I have an embarrassingly large number of cans in the basement. The silver isn’t so obtrusive on the wall, though. (I have two.)

On another note, thank you yet again for discovering BM Soot! It is also, in Aura, the perfect matte furniture paint (rescued an old IKEA Stockholm muddy brown media cabinet with it last week and plan to use it on our base cabinets in the kitchen soon!). It also lends itself very nicely to finishing with Feed ‘n Wax.

I think you have done a service to all of the people out there like me who just want to feel like they own one or two ‘trendy’ things!
