The walnut Eames Hang-It-All is back!

Back in 2010, Herman Miller issued a limited-edition version of the classic Eames Hang-It-All in walnut with black wire, and it quickly sold out. I was lucky enough to get my paws on one (gosh, that packaging was gorgeoussssss), and I still regularly get emails from people asking where they can find one.

Well, if you’ve been wanting a walnut Hang-It-All, you are IN LUCK! Herman Miller has reissued the walnut edition with black wire and white wire (oooooh…). On the DWR site they claim, “Walnut and black is back, but this version differs from the Limited Edition in color, finish and size of spheres. The earlier Limited Edition remains unique to any other Hang-It-All ever produced.” I guess that’s an attempt to placate furious Eames collectors now worrying that their “limited edition” Hang-It-All wasn’t so limited after all by telling them that the spheres are 1/1600th of a centimeter different in size? Who knows. I don’t know! And I don’t really care. I didn’t buy mine because it was limited, I bought it because it’s beautiful. And now more people can have one! Yay!

Herman Miller has also rolled out variations of the Hang-It-All in all-white and all-black, which are nifty (especially in multiples—AHHHH!), but truth be told…my favorite is the still the good old-fashioned multi-colored original.

Hi Anna, have you seen the Hang-it-all redo by Hella Jongerius? There is a picture of it here (at the end): http://www.nest.co.uk/blog/2013-06-26/the-history-of-the-eames-hang-it-all
It’s a special edition in honour of Ray Eames 100th birthday. I love them all really.

Hi Simone, yes, I instagrammed them from the Stockholm furniture fair. Lovely!

Ok, sorry I missed that. I try to avoid instagram to be honest. Though I did fall for Lotta Agaton’s instagram page. At a certain point life needs to be lived as well. I loved the red frame with light wooden balls that you can see in the link.
      Have a wonderful day!

Just came upon your blog today via SF Girl by Bay. I’m pretty new to looking at blogs. I started because I am in the very early stages of trying to buy a home (it’s a ways off). Anyway I wanted to say I am a fan! You have great style. I’m realizing blogs like yours are dangerous though. Just bought the multi-colored hang-it-all. Going to have to control myself so I have money left over to actually buy a home to put the stuff in. Thanks!!

I haven’t read a blog post in well over a month, and I had to smile that this post was the first one I happened to read today. I just posted some photos of my apartment on my blog this morning and the limited edition Hang-It-All that I nabbed several years ago is in one of them (I don’t think I’d ever photographed it before). I saved the packaging because I loved it, too! Anyhow, it’s nice to come back here time and time again and see beautiful things. Thanks, Anna.

I’ve asked Vitra about this and sorry to say but what they’re publishing this fall is a version where the frame is dark brown and the balls are walnut (they also said that in the previous version the balls were oak).

Jules, this post is about Herman Miller, NOT Vitra. It’s a little confusing, I know, but Vitra is the European licensee for Eames product manufacturing, and they don’t always make the same things that Herman Miller does.

The older black/walnut edition produced by Herman Miller is definitely walnut, btw. Vitra had/has no involvement with it. It’s worth noting that in the case of some Eames products, Vitra has significantly changed the design, materials, and methods of manufacturing from the Herman Miller originals.
