That’s the STICKA blanket from IKEA’s 2009 PS collection (which I blogged about back in January), designed by Kazuyo Nomura. The entire collection is FINALLY available in US stores! The blanket is beautiful. My mother bought it in the natural color with multicolored stitching—very cute.

This bed is an old full-sized BERGEN (pre-MALM) bed from IKEA. We stopped using it when we moved into this house and had room for a queen-size bed, but I’m glad we held onto it. The original finish was oak veneer, but I painted it white (two coats of good primer, followed by two coats of BM Simply White to match the trim). It looks so fresh and clean!

The wall color is Benjamin Moore Lacey Pearl (matte)—it’s like the world’s palest neutral gray, and I’m totally in love with it. Trim is BM Simply White (satin), with BM Toucan Black (satin) inside the fireplace.

Exceptionally beautiful poster by Elisabeth Dunker for Studio Violet. Love.

I am so excited to be visiting the mainland in a few weeks – we go to IKEA every time, and I always come home with some great pieces (added bonus that they are boxed and ready to pack up and mail home !)

These rooms are coming out so beautiful – and those big beautiful windows with all of their sunlight *gush*. Lovely.

Aren’t Malm bed’s great? So good for kids only being a wee bit off the floor. Sadly Australian IKEA doesn’t offer much in the way of designer collections.

Really loving the wall colour! We’re hopefully going to get round to painting our bedroom soon… and I think I’ve found our colour! And the blanket’s gorgeous!

Gorgeous room, Anna, and I’m so glad you’re back!

Ooh hooray, very excited to have a D16 fix! The guest room is looking suitably Annaesque, that palest of greys is to die for. Super simple, clean and stylish. Love it.

I’m sooo happy you’re back, I’ve been dying to know what you have been doing in your house. A couple questions, is the clock on the side table vintage or can that be purchased somewhere. I still have this huge clock/radio/cd player next to my bed and it really needs to go. Also, I usually don’t like wool because it is itchy, how’s the blanket, is it soft?

  21. Posted September 20, 2009 at 9:44 am

the bedside table is lovely, and I love that you painted the frame white. time for an IKEA trip!

looks great! I have a very similar credenza (with the same base and weaved wood) along with the matching dining table, chairs, and china cabinate… which was a great find on craigslist for $500! (stuff like that is far and few between up here in Vermont)

  25. Posted September 20, 2009 at 2:15 pm

The rooms looks fab and Lacey Pearl is a beautiful color. Isn’t on the card with Silver Fox? Next time I am in the states and I have to get some extras. The one I had I gave to a painter here for matching and he lost the card. Luckily he did so after he had matched the paint…

Nice to read from you again.

I’m really interested in the light fixture. Is that a ceiling medallion and a lamp shade? Genius!

  28. Posted September 20, 2009 at 6:02 pm

gorgeous. love how the bed spread and the studio violet art works together with shapes and colours.

  29. Posted September 20, 2009 at 6:02 pm

    Adam: Anytime! xox

    my trampoline: Yep, same color.

zarla: Very easy — just a trip to IKEA for their largest RIBBA frame.

    Dan: You’re hired. Thank you!

Sue: The blanket is a wool/poly blend, so it’s softer than pure wool. Not scratchy at all. The clock is from IKEA, too. I don’t know if they still have them, but it was probably about $5.

Monica: I’m not sure, I don’t have the card handy, sorry!

Rebecca: The plaster medallion is original to the house, and the light fixutre is the KULLA from IKEA.

I’ve always LOVED that Ikea blanket but for some reason it’s really expensive in Australia.

I’m about to paint some Ikea laminate furniture, hope it turns out as nice as your bed!

Love the room. Curious about the paint, does it tend to change color depending on the light or does it stay as is?

Bed looks wonderful and the whole room is crisp and clean.

  42. Posted September 21, 2009 at 9:41 am

Cindy: The color is very, very pale — I think most people would walk in the room and call it white — but it does stay consistently neutral.

leslie: A book about what? I always wonder what people mean when they suggest I write a book. :D

I think you should open B&B or just rent out room or two, like they do in Europe. I’m sure there are a lot of people that would love to stay in this room, I know that I would :)

I love the bed transformation, the poster, the color choice and the blanket. It sucks that Ikea in Austin doesn’t have any items of the new PS collection.

All my checking back finally paid off!

Thanks for the update, love the guest bedroom and that poster is calling my name.

I think I might have to repaint all the trim in my house, the BM decorator white is starting to look a little yellow. I think I will try simply white- it comes across so crisp and nice in your photos.

  51. Posted September 21, 2009 at 5:19 pm

I LOVE the grey! I just did my living room in a light grey and I’m loving it- it adds a nice, earthy warmth to the room (rather than making it feel cold).
PS I’m jealous your guests have a fireplace.

  52. Posted September 22, 2009 at 2:25 am

I’m not sure I like this. Your guest room looks so good now, family members from out of town will prefer to stay with you. They’ll drop off the kids here and then go to your house.

When you painted the bed, did you use semi-gloss?

  57. Posted September 22, 2009 at 2:55 pm

I undergo alternate different phases with IKEA furniture. There are times I like it very much but I also very often look at it and think “I can’t see it anymore”. But when I see the way you use IKEA furniture I’m always thrilled!

  58. Posted September 22, 2009 at 4:31 pm

tara: The LOVE print is a design by Alexander Girard.

Jennifer: I used satin-finish paint, the same as on the trim.

Any chance you remember where that medium-brown credenza is from? The one to the left of the fireplace? Looks fantastic.

  60. Posted September 22, 2009 at 4:52 pm

Liza: It’s American; mass-produced by Lane. I bought it on Craigslist. Probably early ’60s.

  61. Posted September 22, 2009 at 5:05 pm

looks great! just a word of caution if that clock is the ikea clock on your side table. i bought it for my niece and the poor girl couldn’t sleep because it was so loud. when she told me about it (months later!) i told her to get rid of it. they moved it to the guest room, which i later slept in and had to take the batteries out of the #*(^#@*& thing, because it was so loud.
    just a warning!

  62. Posted September 22, 2009 at 8:34 pm

brandeye: I think your clock must be defective. I’ve owned mine for more than 3 years and sleep with it in my bedroom often, and it’s completely silent!

Thanks for re-posting about the Ikea PS collection. When you posted about it in January I was looking forward to seeing it in US stores. I was most interested in the Sticka blanket (the one you have) and a chest of drawers on legs (If it comes in black).

A+! I’m not sure how you do all of this and make it look so effortless – but I do love what you do.
So lucky that you have the original medallion in there – and yay for the Kulla fixture – I’m buying another for my up and coming “guest room” too.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful room … I love your style of contrasts. I’m a bit frazzled in choosing paint and would like your input. The main area (living/dining rm) is big and box-like with no architectural details and little natural light, so I’m leaning towards a neutral tan. Is the pale lacey pearl too far off for three adjoining rooms?

  74. Heather
    Posted November 4, 2009 at 5:04 pm

I’m so sorry if this question has already come up, I just couldn’t read all the many comments to this lovely room. The hanging light fixture in the room, I have the same one for my dining room but we had no idea what to do with the extttttra long cord that hangs, so lackluster. What was your solution?

  75. Posted November 4, 2009 at 5:26 pm

Heather, this is a hardwired ceiling lamp (KULLA from IKEA). There’s no cord. Perhaps you have a different lamp?
