Four Legs + Friends + Family

Party invitations.

Somehow, in between hanging cement board in the bathroom (hey, it only took us three weekends! ugh), trying to wrap up everything at work before I go on an 9-day vacation (vacation = working on the house for 8 1/2 days, and taking a 6-hour break for Christmas at my mother’s house), getting my hair cut, doing a gazillion loads of laundry, going over to friends’ houses TWICE in one weekend (that is the most active my social life has been, ever), and commuting 4 hours a day, I managed to squeeze in the time required to print and send (as in by MAIL, with actual stamps) invitations for our New Year’s party.

Since Evan and I tend to be a little hermit-ish, we decided it would be nice to invite our Newburgh friends over to our house to celebrate the new year. We’ve spent the past 3 years worrying that our house isn’t “done” enough to have people over, but enough of that!! We’re never going to finish, so we might as well let people see our doorless closets, toilet-less bathroom, and the plywood ceiling on our front porch. (I am a very selective photographer; you all don’t get to see what goes on outside of the frame.)

I’m totally exhausted. More posts soon, including haircut photos. For now, here are some puppies to tide you over.

Aren’t they just the cutest???

You should have went on the Candlelight House Tour sponsored by the Historic Society this past weekend…then maybe you wouldn’t feel so alone in your still to be done stuff. 🙂

I would have loved to have gone on the tour, but I had absolutely NO time! One of these years I’ll make it. 🙂

Ok, I feel better knowing that you and your house aren’t totally perfect! 😉

Wish I lived in Newburgh… sounds like your party will be the bomb diggity.

The puppies are the cutest!! We are having a Holiday party on FRIDAY! I have been baking and cooking all week and of course — prepping the house! Love the invites – sounds like a fun party!

Lucky – I wanted to have a party this year… but it seems I’m not going to have guests over until July 4th!
The puppies are the cutest. 🙂

I feel your cement board pain, seriously. Kevin just finished hanging ours, so now he gets to learn how to tile. Hooray!

I’m sorry. You commute 4 hours a day? I’ve read your blog for so long and didn’t even reeeeealize that. That is just insanity. In-sanity. Also, and more important: you have such a lovely home. I don’t care if you “edit” which rooms you show. It is a delight.

Someone else on this planet who commutes 4 hours a day??!! I don’t know why this makes me happy but it does. If nothing but for the sheer fact that I am not alone in my daily travels to and from work.

Awesome.Thank you and wish you all a Happy New Year eve in advance.

Good for you. I am the same way; my house is never “perfect” enough to entertain, but my New Year’s resolution is not to care and to have people over anyway.

Does Bruno have a new haircut too? He looks so sleek and cute!
Hope you find some time to relax in your vacation too, so you don’t end up being more tired than before x-mas.

In a pinch, puppy photos *always* work 🙂

It didn’t take me long to realize if I wait till the house is done, we’ll never have friends over.
I just figure it makes me an easygoing host: spill your wine? no problem with stains, we don’t even have a floor!

Regarding your fur babies: When I looked at this picture, I thought to myself…

    good vs. evil?
    night and day?
    devil and angel?

You have to admit, Fritz has a certain “naughtiness” in his eyes and Bruno is decidedly sweetness, light and innocence. Ahh…you know I’m just having fun about their color (or is there some truth here as well?). Ü I think they are both terrific! One of my sons said that Fritz looks like a chocolate chip cookie. Thanks for the great pictures!! Your blog is truly a delight. I find calm in the beauty and cleanness of your home. The puppies give it
    a warm and cozy heart.
