Millet Cinnamon Bread from Sami’s Bakery, coffee with soy milk, place mat from Chilewich.

Evan is sitting across the table, looking dapper.

I have shiny black nails and a giant, green ring. And a clock from IKEA.

I apologize for how quiet it’s been around here lately. Work has been particularly grueling this season, and I’m left so drained at the end of the day that I don’t have the motivation to assemble quality posts. Spring is coming, though.

ooh I love Chilewich designs. I have two bags and am contemplating an iPhone case to match.

    The ring is fabulous!

that ring is amazing! which reminds me… i need to bust out some of my big rings myself. i somehow toned it down after i got married. i’m through with subtlety!

Anna, we love your blog but you should never feel you have to apologize! Blogging is a lot of work and everyone is entitled to take a break. That said… I love the reflection of the calendar in the coffee.

Your ring and nails are exquisite! As is Evan!

  5. Posted March 11, 2010 at 3:32 pm

Also, I was just staring at your coffee trying to see if something was spelled in it… then finally realized it was a reflection of a calendar. I think it’s quittin’ time! :)

  6. Posted March 11, 2010 at 3:33 pm

There are numbers in your coffee!
    I love that green ring.

I’m so glad someone else mentioned the floating numbers in the coffee. I was like, whaaa? :-)

Loving the ring with the black nails!

  15. Posted March 11, 2010 at 4:05 pm

Lovely ring and nails. Do you do them yourself?

  16. Posted March 11, 2010 at 4:06 pm

(psst: I meant that as in – ‘they look so great, do you do them by yourself?’ Not as in ‘they don’t look professionally done’.)

The ring was $3.95 at Forever 21.

    Posted March 11, 2010 at 6:29 pm

Have you tried matte grey nail polish, it would look divine with that ring.

The ring is even more fantastic that you paid $3.95, it looks like one of those thousand dollar costume jewelry rings.

  27. Posted March 11, 2010 at 7:51 pm

I love your ring and nail color as well!

  28. Posted March 11, 2010 at 8:34 pm

I have to laugh at the price of the ring… you certainly do know how to shop! Another laughable topic, what is that behind your hand?…looks like a toilet??? Thanks for the link to the bakery, I may order some of that bread, it looks so yummy!

  30. Posted March 11, 2010 at 9:21 pm

How is it that you can make toast and coffee look incredibly cool? And, yes Evan does look very dapper.

  31. Posted March 11, 2010 at 10:26 pm

What fabulous breakfast treat, nice black nails and gorgeous green ring you had!

How did your house fare during last month’s snow storm?

  33. Posted March 11, 2010 at 11:01 pm

Have you tried Almond Milk as an alternative to soy? Really yummy and does not have that “taste” that soy has…and it is low fat. It tastes great in coffee and tea. I use the vanilla flavored one and I get it at Trader Joe’s!

  34. Posted March 11, 2010 at 11:44 pm

    Such a great ring & mani :)

  35. Posted March 12, 2010 at 12:27 am

Feeling like a big poser copycat right now, since I want ring, polish, mats and clock. Ooph.

    Posted March 12, 2010 at 1:45 am

I love the mystery embedded in your coffee’s soy milk cryptic message. Also, I agree with everyone else – your posts of Evan are so loving. I really enjoy the beautiful portraits you share here on your blog of him. HE IS SUCH A GEM! Please tell him he has a large fan base here in Canada. :)

ALSO, since I like many others, wish to live vicariously through your blog, I would adore you even more than I already do if you continued to act like a tourist in New York and posted more wonderful pictures of it and your fabulous life there.

Considering how overworked you might be, your hands still look great. Wow. Jealous.

    XOXOXO from Toronto.

  37. Posted March 12, 2010 at 7:20 am

Holy big ring, Batman! And I’m jealous of the nails. I wear my nails short too, but working in manufacturing means that nail polish doesn’t stay on very long.

And I agree with Mister Koji: snippets of your life in NYC can easily (and perfectly) fill blog posts, so never worry about the dearth of posting!

holy subliminal message??!!!! Even creative with your coffee? No, seriously…photoshop?

  39. Posted March 12, 2010 at 10:13 am

You guys are all so nice. xoxo

To everyone who’s wondering about the “ghosts” in my coffee (wait, didn’t Carly Simon sing about that?), that is indeed a reflection of the calendar hanging above the table.

dewi: My one experiment with matte nail polish didn’t go well. I can’t keep the finish from looking terrible after one day! I have tried gray polish, though (Essie Chinchilly) — I wish it looked better with my skin tone, because I love the idea.

Sue: No, not a toilet. That’s the back of the stove. :)

annette: The house is fine. We were very lucky — Newburgh was hit very hard by the storm, and there’s a lot of damage in my neighborhood.

elisabeth: I have a carton of almond milk that I’ve been using to make hot cereal, but I’ll have to try it in my coffee, too!

NOJuju: As long as you don’t want the guy, steal away! ;)

    Posted March 12, 2010 at 12:20 pm

Will you tell us what that nail polish is? I love the glossiness of that black!

  41. Posted March 12, 2010 at 2:17 pm

Emily: The polish is Sephora by OPI in ‘Never Enough Shoes’. The shine is attributable to the topcoat, though — I always use Seche Vite.

Caroline, No: Sorry, I missed your question earlier! Yes, I do my own nails.

  42. Posted March 12, 2010 at 5:08 pm

Evan is so handsome. I think it’s his best look right here.
I also think this post is as much quality as any other.

  44. Posted March 14, 2010 at 5:37 pm

Evan really is dapper. I hope you don’t mind, but I have a crush on him. If you guys happen to meet Moby, can you set me up with him? Just kidding, not not really.

I love your giant green ring and your black nails! I recently bought black nail polish for the first time and I love it!

  45. Posted March 14, 2010 at 5:43 pm

I meant that to say just kidding, no not really. Meaning I’m not really kidding…. you probably get the point.

  46. Posted March 15, 2010 at 12:20 pm

I don’t know whether telling you I can’t wait for spring and more posts will add pressure or cheer you up…But I really do love your stuff (and just added you as inspiration for my granny-style-weight-loss program at http://www.mydailyburn.wordpress.com).
